Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 108

"The new book is out, and I've already set aside a copy for you," Willow said, skirting the other topic.

"Really?!" Juliette squealed with delight over the phone, blowing a dramatic kiss. "Willa, you're the best! I've practically worn out your last few books—I take them with me everywhere, even on business trips!"

Juliette wasn't exaggerating in the slightest—she was Willow's number one fan.

Willow couldn't help but smile, her eyes softening. "When you get back, there's another surprise I want to tell you about."

In truth, Juliette had played a part in the casting list for the upcoming series. The two of them would spend hours chatting about the books, imagining the perfect actors for each role and daydreaming about what it would be like to see their stories brought to life.

Now that dream was becoming a reality. Willow knew Juliette would be over the moon when she found out.

They talked for nearly half an hour more before reluctantly hanging up, neither wanting the conversation to end.

Silence settled over the room again.

Willow lay back in bed but sleep remained elusive.

The sixteenth of this month wasn't just the day her best friend would return from her trip—it was also Beasley's birthday.

Willow wished she could forget, but the date lingered in her mind like smoke in her lungs, impossible to erase.

Ever since they got married, Beasley had lost interest in celebrating his birthday, but Willow had always prepared a gift for him. Their marriage only lasted three years, so she'd only ever given him three presents.

One of them was for this year. She'd started planning it six months in advance.

Now, there was no need. She would never give him another gift.

As for everything she'd given him before—and the one gift he'd ever given her, all those years ago—she left them behind at Baycrest Villas, not taking a single thing with her.

Even though that gift had once been her most treasured possession.

He'd always hated this kind of attention. That's why, when he married Willow, he'd insisted on keeping it a secret, despite his mother's objections. He didn't want his private life dragged into the spotlight.

Now, to make matters worse, his grandmother had apparently seen the news, and all weekend she'd been calling nonstop, urging him to come home.

Saturday night, Beasley had planned to swing by the family estate after dinner with friends. But unexpectedly, he ran into Willow at the restaurant.

She was having dinner with her editor—for the second time, and for the second time, he'd happened to bump into her.

Afterward, he'd hitched a ride with her, even played chauffeur for a bit. When they parted ways, he'd hinted that maybe she could take him off her block list.

Yet when he got home, his WhatsApp messages still sat there, staring back at him with a bold red exclamation mark, unread and rejected.

And, as expected, every call he made only met with the same busy signal.
