Beasley was, in truth, a little out of sorts.

He picked up his glass and took a sip.

"Can't talk about it?" Nathaniel asked with a slight smile, a rare flicker of curiosity breaking through his usually composed and handsome features. "Or do you just not know where to start?"

He had a hunch—it probably had something to do with Beasley's wife.

That viral clip of Beasley and his wife embracing in a hospital hallway had been everywhere online. Nathaniel rarely paid attention to social media, but anything concerning Beasley inevitably found its way to him.

Over the years, he'd never pried into Beasley's marriage. All he really knew was that there was no love left between the two.

Well, maybe that wasn't quite true; at least Willow, that young woman, seemed to care for Beasley.

Nathaniel had only met Willow a handful of times, but the look in her eyes whenever she glanced at Beasley said it all.

"It was my ex-father-in-law calling," Beasley said, not bothering to hide it.

"Ex-father-in-law?" Nathaniel's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "You and Willow divorced? When did that happen?"

Beasley gave a brief nod, his eyes a little colder than usual. "Two months ago."

"So that call was your ex-father-in-law coming to scold you?" Nathaniel quickly pieced things together—the recent drama, the rumors about Beasley and Rosamund. It all made sense.

"Did your divorce have anything to do with Rosamund?" he pressed.

Beasley's icy gaze flickered as he frowned. "Even you think those two things are connected?"

"Well, if you're saying it like that, then I guess not." Nathaniel turned to gaze at the lingering lavender twilight outside. "Then what's got you so down?"

Beasley glanced at him, then followed his gaze, looking out at the deepening dusk painted across the sky. "I'm not upset," he said quietly. "Just... puzzled."

Beasley froze for a moment.

He was right. What was he even so puzzled about? What did it matter anymore?

"I remember you never used to care about her business. What's changed?" Nathaniel asked, genuinely curious.

Beasley hesitated, but didn't mention that Willow was actually STAR.

Instead, he just tugged at the corner of his mouth and shrugged it off. "Still don't care. I just went back to Baycrest Villas to sort through some things after the divorce, stumbled across it by accident."

Nathaniel looked surprised. "She just let you see all that?"

Beasley's cool façade nearly cracked. He glanced away, fixing his gaze on the glittering city lights in the distance, and replied in his usual quiet tone, "It was... purely by accident."
