Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 155

York picked up almost immediately.

"Rosa? What's up?" There was a lot of background noise on his end, making his voice sound distant.

Rosamund glanced at her little sister before asking, "Aren't you at home?"

Beside her, Cordelia's eyes widened with anticipation; she all but pressed her ear to the phone, eager to hear York's answer.

Rosamund reached out and gently tapped Cordelia's forehead, nudging her back. At the same time, York's voice came through the speaker again. "I'm out right now. Hold on—let me move somewhere quieter."

A moment later, the noisy background faded, and his voice came through more clearly.

"So, what did you need?" he asked.

Rosamund's tone softened, a gentle smile coloring her words. "Cordelia told me there's a charity ball this Saturday night. She was hoping you'd dance with her. Would you do that for her?"

York lowered his voice. "Is Cordelia with you right now?"

Rosamund gave a quiet, "Yes."

Cordelia couldn't hear York's voice through the phone, but she watched her sister's expression and tried to read every nuance in her tone, hanging on to every word.

She waited, barely breathing, for York's reply.

He hesitated a second, sounding a little conflicted. "Should I? Cordelia, she seems..."

He let the rest of the sentence trail off, unspoken.

"She probably just wants you to show her the world a little. It's only one dance—think of it as indulging a young girl's curiosity," Rosamund said, her voice as warm and patient as ever, her smile unchanged.

Though Cordelia studied fine art, her personality was anything but reserved—she was bright, spontaneous, and, truth be told, a little eccentric at times.

"Alright, I won't keep you. I need to go pick out my dress for the ball right now!" Cordelia announced, already at the door. In a blink, she had disappeared, as if a cheerful little butterfly had fluttered out of the room.

Sometimes, Rosamund truly envied her sister—how wonderful it must be to live so lightheartedly, to be so blissfully and unapologetically yourself.

But if someone offered her the chance to trade places and lives with Cordelia, Rosamund knew she would never accept.

With Cordelia's talents, she would never have caught Beasley's eye.

It had been Rosamund—her poised, polished self—who'd become Beasley's ideal candidate for a wife, not anyone else.

So, she would remain Rosamund in this life—a more perfect, more unassailable version of herself, as always.
