Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 167

Willow clearly had no interest in continuing the conversation, so she deliberately changed the subject. Glancing up at the evening gown draped over the sofa, she asked in a calm, detached tone, "Is that the dress Mr. Scott picked out for Lettie?"

Lionel followed her gaze and smiled. "Yeah. I spent ages choosing it. The size should be about right, too."

Willow's expression remained cool. "But Lettie doesn't really like understated dresses like that."

Juliette jumped in quickly, "Yeah, she really doesn't."

She didn't bother to spare the young master's feelings in the slightest.

Lionel's handsome face fell a little. "How do you know you won't like it if you don't at least try it on?"

He kept trying to persuade her, undeterred. "Who knows? Maybe it'll look great on you."

Of course, he knew Juliette usually went for dresses in bolder colors, but he couldn't help thinking she'd look just as good in something softer and more elegant. He wanted to see it for himself.

"I'm not going to that charity ball anyway, so there's no point in trying it on." Juliette shot him down flatly.

Lionel frowned. "You're spending tonight with her?" he asked, shooting Willow a slightly wounded look across the room.

Juliette nodded, her expression apologetic but firm. "Yeah. First come, first served—you know how it goes. Willa asked me to hang out over a week ago."

Lionel arched a brow, grinning slyly. "Well, that's easy then. Why don't you both come to the ball? Most of the big names in Kingston will be there—it's a great chance to see and be seen. Aren't you at least a little curious?"

"Nope," Juliette replied, answering for both of them. "Willa's not interested either."

Willow just kept her eyes lowered, quietly picking at her food. She nodded in silent agreement. Events like that always risked running into people she'd rather avoid—she had no intention of going.

Lionel was left speechless.

This was the first time in his life he'd been turned down so completely.

But who was the love, and who was the friend she was supposedly betraying?

Willow frowned, lowering her fork. "Does he think you're… not into men?"

Juliette's eyes went wide, shifting from confusion to disbelief. "Where in the world did he get that idea? Does he seriously think I'm a lesbian? Do I look like one?"

But Willow caught the real issue. "If he really does have the wrong idea about you, will you set him straight?"

Juliette's frustration boiled over. She slapped her fork down on the table, crossed her arms, and huffed, "What's there to explain? He can think whatever he wants—it's not my problem."

First, the person she secretly liked treated her like one of the guys. Now, Lionel apparently thought she was gay.

She really couldn't stomach this insult, no matter how she tried.
