Lionel strolled up to Cordelia and stopped in front of her. With the poise of a storybook prince, he gave her a graceful, almost theatrical bow before speaking. "It's me, my lovely lady. But please, let me introduce myself properly this time. My name is Lionel. You can call me Lionel, or, if you prefer, you can use George like before—whichever makes you happy."
Evelyn didn't recognize Lionel at all, but the man beside her, Major, had definitely heard of the Scotts.
He blurted out, "Wait—are you the son of Zachariah Scott, the chairman of Scott International?"
Lionel finally tore his eyes away from Cordelia and nodded politely to Major. "Yes, that's right."
Major's eyes lit up. This was Zachariah's son—the heir to the hotel empire! The Scotts kept a low profile in Kingston City, rarely drawing attention compared to other elite families, but they were wealthy beyond measure, with luxury hotels all over the globe. Zachariah Scott was, without a doubt, a hotel magnate.
Even Evelyn, who knew next to nothing about business, had heard the name Zachariah Scott. So this was the man who'd just invited Cordelia to dance?
Lionel looked about twenty-six or twenty-seven. He was taller than Major—maybe a good six foot one—but still a shade shorter than Evelyn's older brother Beasley.
Cordelia was still reeling. She blinked her wide, dark eyes and asked, "What are you doing here? Didn't you say you were heading back to Ysperia last month?"
She'd always assumed Lionel was an American visiting family over the holidays, and that he'd return overseas soon. That was why she'd felt safe confiding in a stranger at a masquerade, telling him the secret crushes of her heart.
She never thought they'd meet again. Yet here he was…
Cordelia's mind whirled, and she started to wonder if she'd been played all along.
Major then gestured toward Evelyn. "And this is my girlfriend, Evelyn."
Lionel nodded politely to her. "A pleasure, Miss Windsor."
What he didn't say was that Miss Windsor might one day be his future sister-in-law's best friend—a missed opportunity, since Juliette wasn't here tonight.
Evelyn, of course, had no idea what he was thinking. She nodded back, her smile warm. "It's lovely to meet you as well, Mr. Scott."
With that, the introductions were finally complete.
