Evelyn sat in the car, still fuming with anger. The moment she got home, she picked up the phone to call her cousin Beasley and vent her frustration.

That evening, Beasley had returned to his villa in the Opal Residences. He'd just stepped out of the shower when his phone rang, so he answered without thinking much of it.

"Hello?"

"Beasley! Guess who I ran into at the charity gala tonight?"

He sounded half-interested as he asked, "Who was it?"

He sank down onto the sofa, pouring himself a glass of warm water with his free hand.

"I ran into Lionel!"

Even just saying Lionel's name on the phone, Evelyn's irritation flared up all over again.

"Lionel?" Beasley sounded bored. "What did he do?"

The only Scott Beasley knew was Zachariah Scott, chairman of The Scott Group—a rival in the hotel business, since Windsor & Co. had investments in the same industry. Zachariah was a big player, and Beasley had crossed paths with him more than once.

Evelyn tried to keep her voice steady but her agitation seeped through. "He stood there at the gala, right in front of me and a bunch of other people, and bragged that he and Willow are so close they could share a bed. Willow—who can't commit to anything—married you but still flirts with other men! Beasley, you have to be careful. Willow and Lionel are definitely in cahoots and they're going to come after you!"

Evelyn's story grew more dramatic by the second, but Beasley barely heard anything past "so close they could share a bed."

His face immediately hardened, and his voice turned cold as ice. "Evelyn, I know you've never liked her, but there are some things you shouldn't say so carelessly."

So he couldn't exactly lecture Evelyn.

"Alright, I get it. If there's nothing else, I'm going to hang up."

Having vented, Evelyn felt much better and didn't dare push her luck by bothering Beasley further.

"Okay, that's all. Get some rest, Beasley. Good night."
