Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 235

Willow sat quietly in the front passenger seat, her expression unreadable as she watched the verbal sparring unfolding between the other two.

“Did you invite Miss Cordelia?” Juliette seized the moment to ask.

Lionel’s older cousin Tina—a lively, charming girl—crossed Juliette’s mind. She had met her before and remembered her well.

But if Lionel had also invited Cordelia, there was no way Juliette would go.

Lionel knew Juliette would be bothered by this. He grinned, “Relax, I didn’t invite her.”

Juliette shot him a look. “Why should I relax? And why didn’t you invite her, anyway?”

Lionel shrugged, sounding exasperated. “Well, I haven’t won her over yet. What grounds do I have to ask her to my relative’s birthday party?”

So that was it.

He hadn’t given up on Cordelia; he just hadn’t managed to win her heart yet.

Juliette had seen this coming. The moment Lionel first uttered the words “true love,” she’d braced herself for disappointment.

A dull ache spread through her chest.

Willow glanced at Juliette, worry flickering in her eyes. She couldn’t help but turn to Lionel. “Mr. Scott, is it really Cordelia or no one for you? If she turns you down, will you give up?”

Lionel looked momentarily taken aback, as if the thought had never occurred to him. Then he smiled. “If she says no, I’ll just keep trying. Do I look like someone who gives up that easily?”

He hadn’t answered Willow’s first question, but his reply to the second was, in Juliette’s mind, just as crushing.

Whatever courage she’d mustered fizzled out in an instant.

“So, how about it? Next Friday night—are you two free to come? We’ve got some fun games planned.” Lionel tried again, extending the invitation to both of them.

“Sorry, I’m busy,” Juliette replied, her tone suddenly frosty.

Lionel blinked, confused. People always said women were unpredictable, but this was the first time he’d really felt it from Juliette.

What was with her lately? Was she actually planning to cut ties with him?

And the whole thing made no sense… Wait a minute.

A thought struck him.

Could it be that Cordelia was Rosamund’s younger sister? And Rosamund had been linked to Beasley in all those rumors… Was Juliette upset on Willow’s behalf, and taking it out on him?

Lionel felt like he’d stumbled on the truth—and it left him gutted.

Seeing his expression, Willow quickly pulled out her phone and sent Lionel a WhatsApp message: *Mr. Scott, Lettie’s not in a good mood today. You should head home.*

Lionel’s phone chimed with her message.

Honestly, even though he and Willow had exchanged numbers almost two months ago, this was the very first time she’d ever texted him.

He’d nearly forgotten they’d even swapped contacts.

Lionel picked up his phone, his eyes narrowing in surprise.
