Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 241

Dr. Shaw was, without question, the eldest among the eight of them. Ian, at twenty-nine, was next in line, followed by the young married doctors who’d only recently completed their residencies and earned their medical licenses.

The youngest in the group were Willow and Juliette, both still a couple months shy of their twenty-fourth birthdays.

“We’re not in a rush anyway—why don’t we slow it down a bit?” the young woman doctor suggested, glancing around at the group.

No one objected, so they agreed to rest in place for another twenty minutes before moving on.

The eight of them broke into small groups, lounging on the grass, chatting, or snapping photos to remember the day.

Waller, meanwhile, wandered off by himself, climbing a short way up a steeper patch of hillside.

Noticing this, Ian grabbed a bottle of water and joined him, handing it over. “How’s it going with everyone?” he asked, trying to sound casual.

Waller gave the water bottle a cursory glance but didn’t take it. “I’m not thirsty,” he replied, his tone neutral.

It wasn’t an answer to the question, and Ian recognized the deflection immediately. Waller had never been one for sharing much. Ian sighed inwardly—but, honestly, the fact that Waller had agreed to join them on this hike was a huge step forward compared to the past.

Maybe, just maybe, back at Ms. Whitmore’s party a few months ago, Waller really had fallen for Willow at first sight.

It was rare enough for someone as reserved as Waller to show any interest in a girl; Ian felt even more determined to lend a hand.

As he was thinking this, Ian glanced over at Willow—and spotted Ryan edging closer to her.

They were far enough away that Ian couldn’t make out what Ryan was saying, but he frowned. Was Ryan interested in Willow too?

He’d invited Ryan specifically to distract Willow’s friend, hoping to give Waller more chances to talk with her. Instead, it was Dr. Shaw who’d done him the favor; Ryan, it seemed, was just making things more complicated.

Ian couldn’t help but feel exasperated.

Waller, noticing Ian’s fixed gaze, followed his line of sight.

“Who says I like her?” Waller retorted, uncharacteristically defensive.

Yet his eyes stayed locked on Willow.

“You don’t?” Ian arched an eyebrow, unconvinced. “Then why are you staring at her?”

Waller had no idea how to explain it to Ian.

He just…felt sorry for her, that was all.

But as for liking her—she was married. He’d seen her marriage certificate himself, though she’d covered up her husband’s details so he couldn’t see the man’s face or name.

Either way, he’d never play the interloper, never get involved in someone else’s marriage.
