Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 249

Waller didn’t say another word. Whether he’d fallen asleep or was just pretending, no one could tell, but he stayed silent.

Some things just get messier the more you try to explain.

Especially when you’re up against someone like Ryan, a cop with an uncanny knack for sniffing out the truth.

Waller knew Ryan was determined to move up to investigations—he had the talent for it, too. It was only a matter of time before he made detective.

So if Ryan wanted to believe Waller was interested in Willow, then let him. After all, Waller was technically one of Willow’s potential dates.

When Ryan realized he wouldn’t get another word out of Waller, he gave up and closed his own eyes, pretending to nap.

In the next row, the two girls were still wide awake, chatting and laughing quietly, not the least bit tired.

Ryan lay still, listening to the soft, indistinct voices drifting through the van. Before long, he drifted off into a deep, restful sleep.

By half past three, everyone had checked out of their rooms and gathered in the farmhouse’s lounge area.

The sun was gentler now than it had been earlier in the afternoon, but they still needed to be careful about sunburn and mosquitoes.

Willow, Juliette, and the only female doctor in the group all had fair, delicate skin. Even a single mosquito bite would stand out, and worse, the bugs could carry diseases, so they took extra care with bug spray and sunscreen.

After carefully reapplying sunscreen and making sure everyone was protected, the group of eight set off for the mountain’s summit.

There was a cable car for visitors who weren’t up for the climb—or just didn’t feel like walking.

While the group was lost in the golden glow of the setting sun, a tall figure approached silently, stopping less than six feet away.

With so many people focused on the view or taking pictures, hardly anyone noticed the man whose attention was fixed elsewhere.

He stood straight and still, a black mask covering the lower half of his face. Only his eyes were visible—cold, dark, and piercing as they swept over the crowd and settled on a familiar, delicate silhouette.

The woman glanced sideways now and then to chat with her friend, a gentle smile on her face. The last rays of sunlight washed over her hair and features, painting her with a soft, golden light.

For Beasley, it was the first time he truly understood what it meant for beauty to take your breath away.

It wasn’t the sunset, nor the wild majesty of the mountain—it was her. The woman who had once been his wife.

But now, she was nothing to him. No ties left at all.
