Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 30

"I'll get in touch with her," Beasley said, turning his back as he walked a few steps away before pulling out his phone.

Ever since that night, he'd blocked every possible way Willow could reach him.

Now, if he wanted to call her, he had to remove her number from the blocked list first.

He didn't want his father to see, so he made sure to distance himself.

But after unblocking Willow's number and dialing, the call wouldn't go through.

He tried again. Same result. It finally dawned on Beasley—she had blocked him.

A flicker of disbelief passed through his dark, cool eyes. He couldn't decide whether to be angry or amused.

Blocked by her?

Fantastic.

He hung up and immediately dialed another number.

This time, the call was picked up almost at once, the voice on the other end respectful. "Mr. Windsor, how may I help you?"

His call was to his assistant, Xander.

Beasley's tone was even. "I need you to—" He paused, almost reflexively, at Willow's name. It had been three or four years since he'd last spoken it aloud, and suddenly, the words caught in his throat.

"Mr. Windsor?" Xander prompted after a long, awkward silence. "What would you like me to do?"

Beasley composed himself. "Call Miss Sheffield. Ask if she's available tomorrow morning. Tell her the chairman's wife would like to see her."

There was a moment of stunned silence, as if Xander hadn't expected such a task. He finally stammered, "Yes, of course. I'll call Miss Sheffield right away."

Beasley ended the call and waited.

Less than a minute later, Xander's name popped up on his screen.

That fast?

A chill of foreboding slid through him as he answered.

Xander's voice sounded nervous. "I'm sorry, Mr. Windsor. Miss Sheffield has blocked my number too. I can't reach her."

It was as if time itself had ground to a halt.

The phone rang less than ten seconds before Willow picked up.

Vincent raised an eyebrow at his son, then spoke in his usual gentle voice. "Hello, Willa."

Willow's voice was calm and polite on the other end. "Mr. Windsor, is there something I can help you with?"

"Willa, it's like this. This evening, Dorothy suddenly collapsed. She's in the hospital now. If you're free tomorrow, could you come visit her?"

"What?!" Willow's composure shattered. "Which hospital? I'll come right now!"

"Willa, don't panic. Dorothy's out of danger for the moment, but she has to spend the night in the ICU for observation. She'll be moved to a regular room tomorrow."

There was another sharp intake of breath. "She's still in the ICU?"

"Yes, but the doctors were able to save her." Vincent didn't hide the truth—this was his little strategy. Only honesty would guarantee Willow would come.

"All right. I'll come see Dorothy tomorrow!" Willow agreed without hesitation.

Vincent gave her the hospital's address—the same one where Dorothy had her heart transplant, the same one where Willow's mother had once stayed.

Beasley stood by, listening silently as his father spoke, his thoughts hidden behind his quiet, unreadable expression.
