Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 312

Cliffhaven Gardens

Willow Sheffield had just stepped out of the shower, her hair still damp and clinging to her shoulders, when her phone buzzed on the vanity.

Probably a message from Lettie, checking if she’d made it home.

Willow tossed her towel aside and padded over to pick up her phone.

Sure enough, Juliette Danton had messaged her on WhatsApp about ten minutes ago. But the new notification wasn’t from Juliette—it was from Waller Young.

He’d asked if she was still awake, and then if she had a moment to talk. He didn’t specify whether he meant texting or a phone call.

In her last life, Willow would have known exactly what Waller meant; she would have called him without hesitation. But now, things were different. Waller wasn’t quite the same person she remembered, and truthfully, she only knew the version of him from two years in the future, not the man he was right now.

So she typed back: *Give me ten minutes.*

She needed to dry her hair first—otherwise, she’d catch a cold.

She had barely sent the message when his reply came through instantly: *Okay.*

Willow stared at his lightning-fast response, reminded again of how little she understood about this version of Waller.

Ten minutes later, her hair mostly dry, Willow set down the blow-dryer, picked up her phone, and typed: *Ready now.*

Again, his reply came in a heartbeat: *Is it okay if I call?*

Willow blinked, surprised.

So he still preferred talking on the phone.

A small smile tugged at her lips as, almost on autopilot, she pressed his number and waited for the line to connect.

Even as she sat on the edge of her bed, she didn’t sense anything amiss. “What did you want to talk about?” she asked, voice light.

Silence.

Was it possible?

No—wait.

If she could be reborn, why couldn’t someone else? With one example, anything was possible.

Her pulse thundered in her ears; her throat tightened. She asked, voice barely steady, “Have you ever seen the movie *The Demon Tide*?”

That record-breaking animated film wouldn’t even be released for another three years. If Waller’s answer was—

“If there’s no path ahead, I’ll carve one myself,” he replied, voice steady and low.

Willow’s breath caught, her whole body tingling as if struck by lightning.

Tears welled up in her eyes in an instant. “And if the world turns against me, I’ll bend it to my will!”
