Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 35

The reason Willow kept bringing this up was because she knew it was a knot in Dorothy's heart—one she needed to help untangle.

It was also one of the reasons she'd come to the hospital today.

But there was something else, too…

"Dorothy, can you promise me something?" Willow spoke again, her eyes earnest and full of hope.

Dorothy could hardly resist a look like that from Willow; her heart had already melted.

She nodded and replied softly, "Of course. If it's within my power, I promise."

Vincent sat on the other end of the sofa, sipping his tea. Outwardly, he seemed calm, but inside he was tense. These days, it felt like his wife's every mood was tied to Willow.

Every word Willow spoke seemed to have an outsized effect on Dorothy—sometimes it wounded, sometimes it healed.

"Dorothy," Willow said, meeting Dorothy's gaze with unwavering sincerity, "I want you to promise me that, no matter what happens in the future, you'll always put your own health first."

"The best way you can repay my mother is by taking care of yourself."

She and her father didn't need any grand gestures of gratitude, but her mother needed this assurance.

Dorothy's recent collapse had left Willow uneasy.

She needed Dorothy to give her peace of mind.

Vincent was visibly moved by Willow's plea.

He realized, with a touch of sheepishness, that his earlier anxiety had been unnecessary.

After all, he knew exactly what kind of woman Willow was.

"I promise, I'll take good care of myself," Dorothy assured Willow.

Truth be told, Dorothy had been frightened by her own fainting spell.

That was inhuman. That was a crime.

Looking back, she could only blame herself for ever falling for someone as cold-blooded as Beasley.

The only silver lining was that, once she saw his true colors, every last trace of her admiration and love for him vanished without a trace.

Dorothy sighed, regretful. It seemed some things were simply beyond repair.

Not wanting the air to grow too heavy, Willow changed the subject, trying for a lighter tone. She smiled, "Dorothy, I've been thinking of going on a little retreat, maybe find some inspiration for my writing. Do you know of any beautiful islands around here?"

In recent years, Dorothy and Vincent had traveled everywhere, at home and abroad. For Dorothy, this was an easy question.

Seeing Willow smile, Dorothy's own face brightened. "If you're thinking locally, we have a few private islands of our own with stunning scenery. Just let me or Mr. Windsor know when you'd like to visit—we'll make all the arrangements."

"Thank you, Dorothy." Willow spoke freely, then turned to Vincent. "Mr. Windsor, could you tell me more about where these islands are? I'd like to compare them and choose the one that inspires me most."

Vincent smiled. "Of course. I'll have someone prepare all the details and send them to you later today."
