Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 43

"Who is this Mr. Simmons, anyway?"

Willow stared at the chat log, quietly repeating the name.

But one thing was clear: Jeremy—the young man who'd accused her of plagiarism—wasn't the real mastermind behind all this.

No, the one Jeremy called "Mr. Simmons"—he was the true puppeteer pulling the strings.

A glint of realization flashed in Willow's eyes. She quickly typed a few commands, pulling up Jeremy's call history.

There it was: a number marked "Mr. Simmons."

A slight smile played at her lips.

So they'd been talking over the phone as well. Of course—some things are just too risky to put in writing. A quick call, a face-to-face meeting, that's always safer. No paper trail, no chance of someone recording the conversation.

Willow noticed that every call between them was short—barely long enough to exchange a few words.

If Jeremy was just the puppet, that made things so much easier.

She kept digging, following the digital breadcrumbs. Soon, she found three suspicious payments in Jeremy's account, all likely linked to Mr. Simmons.

The first payment had come a year ago, the second last month, and the third on the very day she'd gotten her second chance at life.

$5,000. $10,000. $20,000. Each time, the amount doubled. Altogether, $35,000.

Clearly, these were "rewards" for jobs Mr. Simmons had paid Jeremy to do.

Willow thought for a moment, then a new plan began to form. She didn't have much time left—less than four days to end this, once and for all.

She had to make her move, and it had to be decisive.

Her fingers flew across the keyboard, setting everything in motion. In a few minutes, she stopped, slipped on her voice changer, and used the virtual number she'd just set up to call Jeremy.

It rang for a while before he picked up.

Speaking through the voice modulator, Willow said, "Jeremy, I know your secret. There's a locked notebook—inside, it holds the truth about that online novel you wrote."

Silence. Then Jeremy's voice, tense and wary: "Who are you? What locked notebook? I don't know what you're talking about."

"I told you not to call me unless it's urgent."

Jeremy jumped in, "It is urgent. Can we meet in person?"

There was a moment's hesitation on the other end—but then, finally, an agreement.

"Ten o'clock tonight. Same place as always."

The call ended abruptly before Jeremy could reply.

He didn't seem surprised—almost as if he was used to this brusque treatment.

But his nerves were shot.

He couldn't let anyone else find out about what he'd done.

Mr. Simmons had promised him—if STAR reached out to settle, the entire settlement would go straight to him.

He'd already picked out a downtown condo, planning to put the six-figure payout toward the down payment as soon as it landed in his account.
