Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 72

Beasley steered his car away from Windsor Manor, though he had no real business to attend to that afternoon. The excuse he'd given was nothing but a fabrication, just something to get him out of there.

Instead of heading back to the office, he took a detour straight to Baycrest Villas.

Before the divorce, even on weekends when he had no obligations, he would rarely come back here. The only time he showed up was during the week, every now and then, to keep up appearances for his mother's sake.

Of course, he and Willow had been sleeping in separate rooms for a long while now. The master bedroom had always been hers; he'd taken up residence in the study.

He parked, unlocked the door with his fingerprint, and immediately sensed something different about the place.

It felt cold—lifeless.

That was the first thing that struck him when he stepped inside.

Beasley cast his eyes around the house he'd lived in for three years. The curtains, furniture, paintings, and every little piece of décor had been picked out by Willow herself.

The only thing he'd ever forbidden her to touch was his study. Beyond that, she could do as she pleased, and he never bothered to interfere.

Nothing inside seemed out of place, except for the vase on the living room windowsill. The flowers in it had withered, their colors faded and dull.

Clearly, no one had tended to them in days.

He reached out to touch a wall cabinet. His fingertip came away coated in a thin layer of dust.

Beasley frowned.

Of course—Willow had let the housekeeper go two years ago, insisting she could manage things herself.

Back then, she'd done a fine job. The place had always been spotless, tidy, never anything like… this.

Truthfully, he'd already guessed before he arrived that Willow had likely moved back in with her family. He just hadn't expected she wouldn't even bother hiring a cleaning service.

Beasley headed up to the second floor. The master bedroom and the study were right across from each other, separated only by the staircase—bedroom on the left, study on the right.

He'd thought her so sweet and gentle, assumed she'd love cute little things, so he'd given her what was originally meant to be his cousin Evelyn's birthday present.

Later, he made it up to Evelyn with an even more expensive gift.

Beasley opened the box, and sure enough, there was the crystal rabbit, resting quietly on its velvet bed.

He hadn't even decided what to do next when he heard faint sounds coming from the entryway downstairs.

He'd left the master bedroom door open, so the voices drifted up to him.

Could Willow be back?

He closed the box and turned to leave, but just then he caught a snippet of conversation: "Mr. Langley, Mrs. Langley, please come in. Isn't the light and layout of this villa just perfect?"

Upstairs in the bedroom, Beasley's cold, sharp brows drew together in a frown.
