Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 9

He spoiled her rotten—there was simply no limit to it.

In her previous life, because of Beasley, she had always swallowed her pride whenever Evelyn targeted her with those cutting remarks and petty jabs—enduring what she could, and slinking away when she couldn't.

But now...

Willow's lips curled into a cool, mocking smile. "Excuse me, but do I even know you?"

"You—!" Evelyn hadn't expected Willow to talk back, and for a moment she was left speechless.

Willow knew perfectly well that Evelyn would never admit to their awkward "sister-in-law" connection in public—she'd deny it to the end—so she decided to use that to her advantage.

"Hmph, as if I'd ever associate with someone like you. Keep dreaming!" Evelyn spat, predictably disavowing her.

She was here today with her boyfriend, attending his esteemed professor's birthday gathering. The guests were all accomplished professionals and intellectuals—so a socialite like her fit right in.

But Willow? What right did she have to be here? And in what capacity?

"Eve, what's going on?"

Just then, Evelyn's boyfriend, Major Lowell, hurried over. He'd only been chatting with some old classmates for a few minutes, and when he turned around, his girlfriend was nowhere to be seen.

Still seething from Willow's attitude, Evelyn shot her a murderous glare. Major followed her gaze—and his eyes immediately lit up.

Who was this stunning woman? Was she one of Eve's friends?

"Eve, who's she?" Major asked, his tone bright but carrying a hint of intrigue he didn't even notice himself.

"No idea!" Evelyn snapped.

Major gave a helpless laugh, assuming she was just being petulant. Turning to Willow, he offered a polite smile. "Sorry, my girlfriend can be a little temperamental. If you two know each other—"

He felt a twinge of disappointment, but kept it off his face. Stepping closer to Evelyn, he soothed her in a low voice, "Come on, Eve, if you two aren't acquainted, then just forget about her, alright?"

"And besides, as long as she can't get past you, there's no way she'll ever get close to your brother. Isn't that right?"

That last line clearly hit the mark—Evelyn's scowl faded, replaced by a smug little smile. Clinging to Major's arm, she raised her chin, full of arrogant pride. "Exactly. My brother's standards are way too high for someone like her. He'd never go for a girl like that—ever."

Three years of marriage, and that woman hadn't even managed to give him a child. Clearly, her brother couldn't stand her!

With that comforting thought, Evelyn's mood completely recovered.

Willow had no idea what Evelyn was saying behind her back in the courtyard—and couldn't care less. She just wanted to see Mr. Redmond as soon as possible.

Back in high school, she'd visited the Redmonds' house often, so the household staff recognized her right away.

"Miss Willow! You're here!" One of the longtime maids greeted her warmly, just like old times. "Come in, dear—Mr. Redmond is relaxing in his study upstairs."
