Giselle gave Zachary no chance to speak, cutting him off with a few polite, detached words of comfort. She then stood and left the room quickly, before anyone else could arrive.
After exiting the hospital room, she turned toward the elevators. But just as she reached the corner, she came face-to-face with someone familiar—Anne.
Despite Giselle being fully disguised with a mask, sunglasses, and dressed down from head to toe, Anne recognized her instantly. Arms crossed, she approached with a sneer.
"Wrapped up like a thief, sneaking around like this… Looks like you finally know your place. Guess you realize now that you're just a pathetic joke."
Giselle shot her a hard glare but said nothing. She stepped aside and tried to walk past her.
But Anne blocked her path again, clearly itching to provoke a reaction. "What's wrong, Giselle? Weren't you all bold and shameless before? Trying to compete with me like some cheap whore? What happened now? Got kicked out like trash? Where's all that arrogance?"
Giselle looked up at the woman in front of her, a woman who shared her blood but was also her enemy. At that moment, she realized Anne wasn't quite as simple as she'd always assumed.
"You were the one who brought Zachary back to the country, weren't you?" Giselle asked as she took off her sunglasses.
Anne turned her face to the side and gave a cold laugh. "So what if I did? After what you pulled at my engagement party with those dirty little tricks, I'm more than justified in doing whatever I want to you."
"I just didn't expect Zachary to be so devoted to you," she added, her voice laced with contempt. "He was willing to kill himself over you. Such a shame he didn't actually die. If he had, the entire Kane family would've torn you apart, and I would've had the pleasure of watching it all unfold."
Giselle had always assumed Anne was just a spoiled brat, born into comfort, lacking brains but never lacking resources. At most, she was just another angry, incompetent socialite. But now she saw it. Anne had done her homework. She had uncovered the truth about her and Zachary and had deliberately inserted herself into the mess to stir the pot.
