Now that things were completely over between Giselle and Donovan, Anne's taunts no longer had any effect on Giselle.

Giselle believed that as long as she stayed away from the Kane family, Renee and Anne wouldn't have the time or reason to come after her again. Her life would eventually return to peace.

At the parking lot, she got into her car.

It was a BMW Series 3 she had just picked up a few days ago. It cost a little over 30 thousand dollars, and it was ordinary to the point of being forgettable. It wasn't her style at all, but she had urgently needed a vehicle, and this was the only one in stock. So she bought it without thinking too much.

Now driving through traffic, she kept her hands loosely on the wheel, her mood weighed down. She hadn't turned on the GPS. She had no destination in mind. She just followed the city roads, stopping at red lights, moving with the green, barely aware of where she was going. Her eyes drifted to the city passing outside her window, and her thoughts floated with it.

It felt like the storm had passed. She no longer dwelled on the mess of people and events behind her. But inside, she felt hollow. She couldn't go back to who she used to be—someone full of passion for life, someone who could bounce back from anything.

Everything now felt dull and meaningless.

Eventually, she reached another red light. As she stopped and waited, her phone rang. It was one of the managers at her clinic, calling to say a difficult customer was causing trouble and needed her to come handle it.

Snapping out of her daze, she quickly redirected her GPS to the clinic.

The light turned green. The cars ahead began to move quickly.

Giselle's car was in a straight-lane queue. Seeing the light had been green for a while and would soon change again, she stepped on the gas to make it through.

But the car directly in front of her moved at a crawl, inching forward at a pace that made her stomach hurt.
