"No need." Gideon refused without hesitation. "I'll wait a couple of days for Uncle Ethan to cool off, then talk to him again about the investment."
"I'm serious." Giselle looked at him seriously. "I know how important this acquisition is for you, and you're catching it at the perfect time. If you miss it, the loss will be huge."
She went on, "That's why I insist on helping you. I've got enough cash on hand to tide you over. If you take it, I won't feel like I owe you so much, and our marriage will feel more equal."
Gideon's eyes locked on hers, the intensity between them stretching long enough for him to break into a faint smile. "Do you even realize what you're saying?"
"I do." She gave a careless little smile. "It's not even my money. It blew in like it came in the wind. Leaving it there means it'll only lose value. I might as well lend it to you now. Feel free to pay me back later if you'd like. Or don't. Either way, Ethan and Donovan are family. Whether you use his money or your uncle's, what's the difference?"
He couldn't help laughing at the sheer audacity of her reasoning and nodded. "Alright. I give up. You win."
"Come on. Let's go to the bank. I'll transfer it to your account now." She was more eager than he was, abandoning any thought of helping Vivienne and already on her feet.
He'd been hesitant, but seeing her so determined, and understanding what this meant beneath the surface, he didn't refuse.
…
It was 6:00 pm.
Donovan's meningitis required at least 20 days of inpatient treatment. For now, he remained in the hospital, following his medication and IV schedule. Other than the nurse, no one was allowed to visit.
