Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 290

Giselle felt torn. If she agreed to let Joanne work as her housekeeper, she'd be accepting Donovan's help and would still be indirectly involved with him. However, paying Joanne out of her own pocket didn't seem like a worthy option either.

"It's best if you continue working at Mr. Kane's household, Joanne," Giselle said in a neutral tone. "We're not involved in any way, so I don't really want him to hire a housekeeper for me. I think you should go."

"But—" Joanne's expression instantly shifted. "You can't do this, Giselle. I-I know there's something between you and Mr. Kane. I've seen how close the two of you were when you dropped by his place in the past."

She continued, "I don't want to overstep by asking about your relationship, but it's clear that he treats you very well—"

"That's enough!" Giselle snapped furiously.

"Stop making things difficult for me, Joanne. I know you're a very experienced housekeeper and your salary is quite high. I don't have the financial means to hire you, but I don't want you to work at my house when you're getting paid by someone else.

"That's all I have to say about this. You can return to Mr. Kane and inform him about the situation yourself," she said.

Ignoring Joanne's pleas, Giselle headed back inside and shut the door in her face. Then, she changed into her indoor slippers and returned to her bedroom.

She thought about what just happened and felt slightly frustrated. She thought she'd already made herself perfectly clear. With how firm she was being, she thought he'd finally leave her alone and stop contacting her for good. To her dismay, he ended up sending his housekeeper over to keep an eye on her.

Monday was two days away. She was going to get married to Gideon soon. So, she didn't want to be so distracted. She soon moved on from the issue and forgot about what Donovan had done.

To her surprise, Gideon didn't contact her throughout the entire weekend.

The pair were about to get married very soon. It didn't make sense for him to not contact her at all. At the very least, he should've come over to spend time with her over the weekend. Even if he was swamped with work, he could've at least called her so they could talk about their future marriage.
