Chapter 396 The Taste of Trouble
Leslie’s POV
I quickly clarified, “Kirby doesn’t live here. This is my suite. If you don’t believe me, come in and see for yourself.”
Asphodel laughed in my head. Look at her face–scared out of her wits.
Chloe lowered her eyes, forcing a stiff smile. “N–no… no need, I…”
ད་
She stumbled over her words, clearly unable to come up with an excuse.
Her fingers tightened around the wine bottle, her cheeks red as if they might drip blood.
Watching her flustered state, I kindly offered her a way out. “I can call Kirby for you. tell him directly.”
I said it on purpose. At least this way, I was being generous.
You can
Chloe recoiled a step, panicked. “No need, Leslie. I just remembered—I haven’t reviewed my lines. I’ll head back. Sorry to disturb you. Good night!”
She turned to run, then hesitated, thrusting the wine and two glasses into my hands. “This really is my family’s recipe. Please try it…”
Before I could answer, she bolted–faster than Sandra–looking ridiculous, like she was fleeing for her life.
I couldn’t help laughing, glancing down at the bottle and cups in my hands.
Asphodel snorted. Kirby’s popularity–there will always be Omegas throwing themselves at him.
I muttered back, “I didn’t care how many women he had before, and I care even less now.”
I carried the wine inside, poured myself a glass, and took a sip.
The alcohol spread across my tongue, rich and layered, melting slowly with an exquisite aftertaste.
My brows lifted in surprise. I’d drunk plenty of fine liquor, but this had a unique flavor.
No wonder Chloe dared bring it to Kirby. She had reason to be confident.
From the sofa, my tablet suddenly chimed.
1/3
“Are they gone? All those women lining up for Kirby? Tsk, blind fools. Throwing themselves at a scumbag?”
I blinked, realizing I’d forgotten to hang up Astrid’s video call.
She’d heard everything?
Heat rose to my cheeks. I picked up the tablet. “Objectively speaking, an alpha’s draw for them is like jackals scenting a dying fat sheep. Even if it isn’t theirs, they’ll still want a bite.”
Asphodel chuckled. Perfect analogy.
Astrid burst out laughing, then caught sight of my flushed cheeks. Her expression shifted. “Wait -you drank that woman’s wine? Aren’t you afraid she spiked it?”
I paused, savoring the lingering taste, then couldn’t resist another sip. “She wouldn’t dare. Unless she has a death wish… Though this wine packs a punch.”
À haze already clouded my head, but the flavor was addictive, leaving me wanting more.
poured another glass. Even with the cup blurring into double, I still filled it to the brim.
Astrid said something else, her voice urgent, but the words were starting to slip away.
Kirby’s POV
Fresh from the shower, my hair still dripping, Astrid’s call came through.
I didn’t bother drying off. Grabbing a towel, I rushed straight toward Leslie’s suite.
Lance barked in my head. Hurry! She drank that woman’s wine. What if something happens?
I rang the bell. No answer. Knocked harder. Still nothing.
I was about to let Lance take over, shift into wolf form, and smash the door down.
But Astrid’s sharp voice snapped from the phone. “Are you an idiot? If she could open the door, would I be calling you? Go get a spare keycard!”
