I turned back, narrowing my eyes at him. The office lights stretched his shadow across the room, tall and overwhelming, as if it could swallow everything whole.

His mint scent filled the air, sharp and wild, reminding me of my own younger days.

Kirby’s voice was hoarse and cold, ground out like a blade from the bottom of his throat. I’ve completely taken control of the Pack. Crimson Moon no longer needs two Alphas. You’d better start preparing for your retirement ceremony.”

Boom-

My heart was struck like a hammer blow, my body jolting as my head roared with the howls of wolves tearing through my skull.

A retirement ceremony?!

The words burned through me, heating my old face. The wolf inside me shrieked: He dares?!

I snapped my head up, glaring at him, my eyes sharp enough to devour him whole. You

But he didn’t even spare me a glance. He picked up the phone, giving the order with a voice as calm as if he were issuing a routine command, yet heavy with undeniable Alpha authority. Take the old Alpha back to Bloodrock Estate.

Two gammas came in, respectful but detached, taking hold of my arms. My heart sank, fury surging like a tide. This boymy heir, the one I had poured all my effort intowould treat me like this!

My face darkened, my chest heaving as if it might explode, my mint scent spilling out in chaotic waves of Alpha rage.

The

gammas trembled, but their grip held firm.

Kirby was right. He had truly seized complete control of Crimson Moon.

As they led me out, each step felt like treading on thorns. At Bloodrock Estate, the dim yellow light of the hallway flickered across the portraits of our ancestors, as if mocking the Alpha who

had fallen.

The wolf inside me growled: Marcus, you’re old

I clenched my teeth, powerless frustration rising from deep within. Crimson Moon’s standing

had been carved out by my own hands. And now, it slipped away like sand through my fingers, and I no longer had the strength to hold on.

That boy had been clever and bold since childhood. I once believed I could control him. But the ambition of a young Alpha will always one day devour the old.

The cold wind outside sobered me as I stepped out the door.

I looked back once at the building behind me, the seat of Crimson Moon’s Alpha power, then turned toward Bloodrock Estate.

A slow smile spread across my face.

Kirby, your ruthlessness is just like mine when I was young. But you’ve forgotten the first lesson I taught you: Alpha’s power is never eternal.

Kirby’s POV

As soon as Marcus left, the office door slammed shut with a heavy bang, the sound landing like a hammer on my chest. I collapsed into my chair, exhausted, my brow furrowed as if clamped tight in iron.

Dim light spilled through the floortoceiling windows, stretching my shadow to fill most of the room, as though the entire Crimson Moon Pack were laughing at the Alpha’s fatigue.

Lance growled in my head: Kirby, the old man is finally gone. But this feelingit’s like you’ve shed a mountain of weight, only to take on a new shackle.

This wasn’t an impulsive break.

From the day I took Alpha authority, I had been planning.

His need for control was like a choking vine, wrapping the Pack so tight it couldn’t breathe. A Pack doesn’t need two Alphasthat iron law should have been enforced long ago.

Authority is the bedrock of an Alpha’s rule. But he always pushed past his bounds, interfering with every move I made, as if to remind me this was still his territory.

The retirement ceremony has two paths. I left the choice to him just to see if he had the courage to gamble.

The peaceful handover is the most dignified: on the night of the full moon, a descendant accepts the scepter under the elderswitness. It symbolizes bloodline continuity, harmony, and stability for the Pack.

But his sharp eyes revealed his calculationsthe bloody way. The ancient law of challenge: the young Alpha duels the old, the winner taking the seat, the loser cast out as a rogue wolf.
