Today, at last, nobody was pointing fingers at me that old fossil who wanted me to marry his daughter a hundred years my senior had finally quieted down.
Astrid usually acts unreliable, but when it counts she can come up with solid plans.
I curled into the leather chair, grabbed my phone, and flicked through the trending list, intending to find that “accidental embrace” photo.
Nothing. Empty. Everything gone.
My chest dropped. I called the Beta contact at the platform. His voice trembled: “Mr. Eric, it’s… Crimson Moon Pack put pressure on us. Kirby’s orders – we couldn’t refuse.”
Kirby? That Crimson Moon Pack bastard!
Blood rushed to my head. I nearly smashed the phone.
I’d even stood by that guy when he was competing with Adler. And now this–he’s sabotaging
me!
I really don’t want to marry that hundred–year–older she–wolf!
My teeth ached with anger as I pulled up Kirby’s number and dialed.
Silence on the other end, then the faint click of an answer.
His voice: “Hello?”
“You Crimson Moon Pack bastard, you’ve gone too far! I supported you against Adler, and you ruin this for me? Are you even human?”
He paused, his tone cold and impatient. “What do you mean?”
I drew a breath. “If Leslie really decides to be with me, do you think you’d have a chance? You threatened the platform to pull my trend? Do you know how long we worked on this? That’s too much, Crimson Moon Pack bastard. I’m switching my support to Adler!”
I hung up the moment the words left my mouth and slammed the phone onto the desk. The dull thud matched the pounding of my heart.

In the study at Bloodrock Estate the fireplace light threw half my face into shadow. I stared at the trending feed on my phone with a hard expression.
Eric’s call cracked a window into my closed world; my gut told me this was more complicated than it seemed.
I immediately rang Malach. “Check Eric
–
what’s the Frost Pack been up to lately?”
Malach moved at once. I leaned back, the silver watch on my wrist cold against my skin.
A confidential report arrived on the desk soon after.
I flipped through several pages, eyes scanning text and photos, and the fog of doubt lifted.
