CROSSING THE BORDER novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

“I don’t know her spicy tolerance is very low!” Eiten groaned when Maximus kicked his butt, which made him fall face first if it was not for his reflex to cushion his fall with both of his hands.

Meanwhile, Declan, who was sitting on the chair not too far from the in the study, didn’t seem interest with that. He perused another document, even though it was already so late at night.

“How should I know? You didn’t tell me, you only said to test her taste.”

To be fair, Maximus didn’t know about that either. How could he know? He only met with her a couple of time, and most of the time, she barely said anything.

Meanwhile, Eiten groaned like a child, rubbing his butt, but he didn’t stand up, instead he stared at the king sulkily, and Maximus was tempted to kick him again, but instead, he turned around and shifted his attention to his royal beta.

“Have you found something?”

Eiten looked at Declan too, because obviously the king gave him an order to do something that he didn’t know about.

“You only asked this morning, how could I find anything?” Declan replied without lifting his head from the document that he was reading. “I have not yet found anything. Be patient.”

“Patience is not my forte.”

“What the two of you are talking about?” Eiten finally stood up from the floor, but he cautiously put distance between him and the king.

It was already late at night, and the soft light of the moon filtered through the window, from where you could see the dark sky studded with stars.

The question from Eiten made Declan lift his head, and looked at him. “Right. Why don’t you do it, since you have plenty free time in your hand.”

“I don’t have plenty of free time.” Eiten furrowed his brows, and glanced at Maximus. The king would add more task if he believed that. “I am taking care of the war against the Barlukan, remember?”

Yet, Declan waved his hand impatiently. “Max wants to know about that woman. I have gathered the information about her, but he wants more.”

Eiten looked at the king and the royal beta back and forth. “What you have found out?”

Declan then told him about the information that he managed to gather in the pack house of the Black Stone, meanwhile, Maximus took one of the documents from the table and perused it. He didn’t object their conversation, which meant he was fine for Eiten to look more into it.

“How many people that you have asked when you got that information?”

“Three, four. All of them were saying the same thing.” Declan shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. He didn’t

like the first thing he heard about Rania, so when all of them were saying the same thing, he thought it was a waste of time. Maximus should have rejected her right there and then.

“You are saying that you didn’t even try to look for another angle of the information and believed those people’s words easily?” Eiten raised his brows in disbelief, and his expression irritated Declan so much to the point he threw a paper towards the royal gamma, which Eiten dodged easily.

“They lived with her, what else should I do? They are saying the same thing.”

But suddenly, Declan fell to the ground, he was holding his head, as if he was in so much pain, and even though Eiten was not in the receiving end of the king’s wrath, he could feel the strong energy that came from him.
