“I’m not interested in knowing.”
Charlotte was about to shove him away when a clatter of footsteps and voices echoed outside the locker room.
A few staff members were chatting, “Who exactly is that Lottie girl? She just scared our Astra University’s programming whiz straight into the ER!”
Charlotte stiffened at the words. She didn’t dare make a scene—if anything scandalous happened here, she’d be disqualified from the competition.
Darren sensed her hesitation and only grew bolder.
His large hand, heavy with warning, gripped her with merciless precision.
Her heart pounded wildly, her pulse thundering where he touched her.
“What are you doing?” she hissed, trying to sound stern, but the hint of softness in her protest only seemed to please Darren.
He swallowed hard, his lips burning against the shell of her ear as he murmured, voice rough, “I told you to get ready to apologize to Xena. Who told you to make yourself the center of attention here?”
“Or do you really think that bribing the organizers and answering a few questions on camera makes you better than Xena? Hm?”
As he spoke, his fingers roamed her sensitized skin with deliberate skill.
Charlotte sucked in a shaky breath, fighting the tremor that threatened to give her away.
She refused to answer.
Darren took her silence as compliance. He leaned down, kissing her lips with a steady, coaxing patience. “I told you—there’s no replacing Xena. Stop wasting your time. Go apologize to her right now. And later, you’ll apologize to my sister too. Be good.”
Charlotte’s lips pressed into a stubborn, trembling line. “I’m not apologizing. Never.”
Darren’s hand paused for a moment; a flash of irritation darkened his eyes.
“So stubborn? Then I’ll have to teach you until you listen.”
She barely had time to protest before he set about proving his point.
Above her waist, his searing kisses claimed her lips, her neck, and the delicate curve of her shoulder with possessive force.
Below, the last barrier between them was tugged aside.
All the while, footsteps hurried past just outside, voices rising and falling.
