All eyes were fixed on the screen as the numbers finally stopped rolling.
The final figure blazed: “Eight hundred billion dollars!”
As the host announced the sum, a sharp collective gasp rippled through the room.
“Eight hundred billion? My God! That’s astronomical!”
“Well, what did you expect? He’s the CEO of Avalor’s top research company—low-key, but living on another level.”
The crowd’s gaze toward Bradley shifted, now tinged with awe and disbelief.
Xena, clutching Darren’s arm, tightened her grip as she saw the number, a flicker of panic flashing in her eyes.
But when she noticed Darren’s lips curl in a dismissive, almost mocking smirk, she quietly let out a breath.
The host spoke again, “Next, we’ll verify Mr. Darren Harrington’s personal liquid assets!”
Another number began to roll across the massive screen.
No one moved. The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop, until the figure locked in—“One trillion dollars!”
“One trillion! Mr. Harrington has two hundred billion more than Mr. Fairchild!”
A roar erupted, shaking the room, applause and gasps crashing together in a tidal wave of excitement.
A clash of titans at the top of the pyramid—utter madness!
Xena’s face broke into a triumphant smile as she shot Charlotte a sidelong, taunting glance.
So what if you’ve found a new benefactor?
Charlotte, no matter what, your man still can’t compete with mine!
Darren’s gaze cut sharply toward Charlotte as well, his eyes brimming with undisguised mockery. “Charlotte, you tossed aside a diamond for a handful of pebbles. Regret it now? Too late for that.”
Charlotte’s eyes remained unreadable.
She’d never been attached to this diamond in the first place; win or lose, it made little difference to her.
