“Don’t you like it?”
Darren’s heart skipped a beat, tension tightening in his chest.
Charlotte’s clear, beautiful eyes lifted to meet his, cool and unruffled. “It’s nothing special,” she said calmly. “I can’t say I like it, but I don’t dislike it either.”
Darren drew a deep breath. The road ahead was long and uncertain…
But he wasn’t in a rush. He took her hand gently. “Let’s eat first.”
He led her to the center of the restaurant, to a heart-shaped table draped with a blush pink cloth, set up with meticulous care.
As soon as Charlotte sat down, Darren snapped his fingers.
The lights dimmed all around them, replaced by a soft, magical glow as hundreds of fireflies danced through the air.
Darren smiled. “These fireflies—each one stands for my love for you.”
Taking her hand in both of his, he looked into her eyes. “Charlotte, while I was in that coma, I had a long dream. In it, I never lost you. There was no fire. You weren’t left waiting, alone, through endless years. You never got hurt. You were always right by my side—safe, happy, at peace.”
“I used to think, maybe it would be better if I could just stay in that dream forever. But I know there’s so much I still need to do here, things I need to make right.”
“Charlotte, you gave me a second chance at life. From now on, I’m living for you—only for you.”
As he spoke, the flickering fireflies cast shifting golden patterns across Charlotte’s face, where a trace of emotion finally stirred.
Just then, a waiter rolled over a silver cart.
During dinner, Darren poured her wine but didn’t rush to clink glasses. Instead, he lifted his own and fixed her with a deep, mesmerizing gaze. “Charlotte, give me your hand.”
She hesitated, but as soon as she reached out, he intertwined their arms, drawing her close—so close she could feel his breath, see her reflection in his eyes.
Suddenly, a glass of red wine appeared in her palm.
“Charlotte, let’s drink this—cheers to our partnership.”
“...Oh.”
She took a small sip, a hint of pink blooming across her cheeks.
