Delete My Love for You novel Chapter 58

At the same time, the lab results came back for the pill Darren had taken earlier from Charlotte’s bottle.

The report was clear: it was indeed a painkiller meant to suppress the central nervous system, but the active analgesic ingredient was ten times the standard dosage.

In other words, this was not a prescription drug from any hospital.

“Mr. Harrington, should we transfer her to a major hospital right away?”

Before Darren could respond, the butler’s voice came from outside the door. “Mr. Harrington, a Mr. Herbert is trying to force his way into the house. We’ve stopped him at the entrance.”

Herbert?

Darren’s eyes narrowed at the name. He set the report aside and stared intently at the unconscious woman on the bed.

“Monitor her vitals and stay alert. I’ll go see what this is about.”

A moment later, Darren stepped outside.

Herbert was pinned by two security guards, his gold-rimmed glasses unable to hide the fury and exhaustion in his eyes. “Darren! Lottie—she’s here, isn’t she? What right do you have to keep my girlfriend locked up? If you don’t let her go, I’m calling the police!”

“Go on then. Try it,” Darren replied, his voice cold and sharp as the rain in Astra finally let up.

Standing tall and broad-shouldered on the front steps, hands in his coat pockets, Darren looked down on Herbert with an icy loathing he didn’t bother to hide.

Herbert, for his part, understood perfectly well—by keeping Lottie here as a bodyguard, Darren was already acting as her employer. The threat of calling the police meant nothing to him.

Herbert’s voice shook with desperation. “Lottie’s condition is unique. Your doctors can’t help her! If you don’t let her leave, she’ll die…”

The medical team, still flustered, straightened at her entrance. “Mrs. Harrington.”

After all, Darren had publicly acknowledged Ms. Lancaster as his wife at the orphanage, making headlines everywhere. The doctors knew exactly who she was.

Xena sat by the bed, casting a worried gaze at the unconscious woman. “How’s my bodyguard?”

One of the doctors answered, “All her vital signs are stable, but she’s still unconscious. We’re providing oxygen and fluids to keep her strength up. The cause hasn’t been determined yet.”

“I see…” Xena sighed, subtly shifting closer to Charlotte, her voice gentle with concern. “Lottie here is the bodyguard Mr. Harrington handpicked for me. She’s very capable.”

“She collapsed, and Mr. Harrington carried her home himself—he’s been worried sick. You all must do your best. Please… don’t let anything happen to her.”

As she spoke, Xena quietly pressed the oxygen tube under Charlotte’s elbow, partially pinching it off.
