Delete My Love for You novel Chapter 82

Suddenly—

“Ms. Lawson!”

A middle-aged monk in a long robe hurried over, hands pressed together in excitement. “Ms. Lawson, you’re finally back!”

He beamed at her, voice full of warmth. “Everyone’s always asking about you. You used to come to the abbey every month, but we haven’t heard from you in nearly two years. Seeing you safe and sound—God truly watches over us!”

Darren’s brow furrowed.

Nearly two years without a word? Then how could the real Charlotte have been coming here?

His face darkened, a trace of anger seeping in. “Lottie, are you playing games with me?”

Charlotte answered calmly, “Mr. Harrington, don’t get ahead of yourself.”

She stepped forward, her tone respectful as she addressed the monk. “Father Temple, is the wishing tree behind the abbey still there?”

Father Temple gave a delighted laugh. “Ms. Lawson, you jest! You’ve donated a hundred thousand dollars every month to our abbey for years—your devotion is nothing short of saintly. Of course your special wishing tree is thriving! Please, follow me.”

As the monk turned, Darren’s eyes narrowed in suspicion.

Charlotte donated a hundred thousand dollars every month?

He remembered that after they got married, her monthly living allowance was exactly that amount.

No wonder she never bought herself new clothes—she’d given it all away to this place.

Puzzled, he followed the monk and Charlotte to a massive old oak behind the abbey.

Its branches stretched wide, each one draped with hundreds of crimson ribbons and small wooden plaques, each inscribed with wishes and prayers. When the wind gusted, thousands of ribbons and plaques chimed together, sounding almost like the voices of angels.

Father Temple gestured to the tree. “Ms. Lawson, this is your wishing tree. For the past ten years, you’ve come here every month to hang your prayers. Every plaque on this tree bears your wishes. One day, I’m certain the heavens will hear you and grant your heart’s desire.”

Darren felt his breath catch.

Every single plaque—Charlotte’s?

So that one he’d glimpsed once, the one wishing blessings for Herbert, was just a drop in the ocean?

Once, her whole world had revolved around him.

And now, every word on every plaque was engraved in her memory.

Charlotte parted her lips and read softly from the plaque in her hand:

“This one is from the winter of 2018. It says, ‘May Mr. Harrington find peace and happiness; may the Harrington family be blessed with health and harmony.’”

Her voice was calm, steady, without a trace of emotion—yet the words sent shockwaves through Darren’s heart.

Mr. Harrington?

There was only one Mr. Harrington in all of Astra—him!

But in 2018, he and Charlotte hadn’t even crossed paths. How could she have known him?

He scowled, confusion clouding his face. “Lottie, what are you talking about?”
