Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 41

For two days straight, Emmy didn’t get a single word back.

But Rory kept calling, her phone buzzing non-stop with urgent updates.

“Ms. Lincoln, Mr. Lincoln only gave us ten days! Ten! If we can’t fix this before the shareholders’ meeting, they’ll destroy the Dome in front of everyone!”

Emmy knew she couldn’t wait any longer.

As soon as lunchtime hit, she headed straight for Dr. Pepper’s private club. She barely made it to the waiting area before she ran straight into Dean and Evelina.

The second Dean spotted her, he marched over, his voice tight. “What are you doing here?”

Emmy didn’t even look at him. She just kept walking toward the entrance.

A staff member stepped in, blocking her way. “Ma’am, please wait in line.”

She stopped, a little thrown off. She knew this attendant—she used to come here all the time, and every visit, he’d treated her like someone important.

“You don’t remember me?” she asked.

He was polite, but distant. “The professor’s orders. Now, everyone has to wait in line.”

Evelina jumped in with her usual soft, sweet voice. “Emmy, I know you really want Dr. Pepper to see your thesis, but you can’t just barge in. The professor wouldn’t like that. Let’s just wait together, okay?”

She made it sound like she was helping, but every word was a subtle dig, like Emmy didn’t know how things worked.

Dean was still glaring at her. “Dr. Pepper isn’t going to see your thesis.”

Evelina tugged at his sleeve, trying to calm him down.

Emmy narrowed her eyes, suddenly suspicious. She stared Dean down. “You messed with my thesis, didn’t you?”

Dean didn’t even try to deny it.

“Your thesis has serious problems. The professors at those second-rate colleges can’t spot them—they’ll think they’ve found something amazing. But if you actually submit it, you’ll ruin their reputation, and you’ll wreck your own future.”

He looked at her like it was obvious. “I’m doing this for your own good.”

And what had he said back then?

“I’m already busy enough. If you throw yourself into research too, when are we ever going to see each other?”

Just because of that one sentence, she’d given up her dream.

But now, here he was, doing everything he could to help Evelina, clearing every obstacle in her path.

Turns out, loving someone and being in love with someone are two totally different things.

To truly love someone is to break yourself apart just to help them fly higher.

Being in love is just… being in love. Nothing more.

No wonder, in her last life, she’d let herself become a caged canary—her edges dulled, her wings clipped—all because she thought that was love.

Not long after, the door opened.
