The shareholders’ meeting kicked off just like always—long-winded, boring, and painfully predictable. Emmy zoned out, twirling her pen and barely listening, until she heard someone mention the Dome.
“…about the recent losses caused by the Dome, we’re deeply sorry.”
“So, after a preliminary board decision, we’re pulling the Dome immediately and replacing it with the Skyline System, developed by Deputy Director Evelina…”
“Wait a second.”
Emmy stood up, her expression calm as she surveyed the room.
“Since its launch, the Dome has brought in significant profits for the company. If we just yank it without warning, not only will we disappoint our loyal users, but we’ll also end up breaking a ton of contracts.”
Cooper’s face turned stormy. He barked, “Emmy, sit down! This isn’t the time for your outbursts!”
But Emmy didn’t sit. She kept going. “Actually, I have a better idea. If you’ll give me ten minutes, I can show you a plan that’ll not only get us back into the black, but also help us win over a whole new group of clients.”
The room instantly buzzed with whispers. Shareholders exchanged glances, curiosity piqued.
Cooper looked ready to explode, but before he could, an older board member near the head of the table spoke up.
“Mr. Lincoln, let the young lady speak. We can spare ten minutes.”
Emmy shot Mr. Taylor a grateful smile, then hooked up her laptop to the projector.
The moment the screen lit up, a fresh set of diagrams and plans filled the room. Emmy walked everyone through the best ideas she’d pulled from Dr. Pepper’s research and her own innovations, laying everything out clearly.
Silence fell. When she finished, the room was stunned. Even a few board members who’d been shaking their heads earlier started nodding, visibly impressed.
Cooper’s face was the color of burnt toast, but he forced out, “Ahem, well… this proposal is, actually, very good.”
But then he immediately added, “Still, this is a critical system for the company. I’ll need to discuss it further with the other directors. We’ll only proceed after confirming it’s feasible.”
He was stalling for time.
He clearly didn’t want her plan to move forward.
Emmy narrowed her eyes.
The entire room fell silent.
Every single set of eyes landed on Cooper.
After all, Emmy’s shares were currently in his hands.
Cooper looked like he’d swallowed a lemon. “No way! You think you can just wave around a fake certificate and I’ll fall for it?”
Emmy just smiled and handed the folder to the lawyer.
“You can have Mr. Lincoln check it himself.” She looked over at her father. “Mr. Lincoln, let’s sign the stock transfer today.”
Cooper shot out of his chair and snatched the folder from the lawyer, flipping it open.
The marriage date was last month, on the twentieth.
And he hadn’t even heard a whisper about it.
