Bang!
The door slammed shut behind him.
"Jamie!" Dean shouted, his jaw tight, voice raw as he yelled at the closed door. "If Emmy so much as loses a single hair, I swear you'll regret it!"
Silence. No answer from inside.
Two men in black suits immediately stepped forward, blocking the entrance with their broad shoulders.
Jamie’s assistant took his time straightening his cufflinks, then shot Dean a polite but icy smile. "You're the first person who’s ever dared to piss off Mr. Nelson like this, Mr. Sparrow."
"This way, please."
Dean leaned back against the wall, his eyes dark and brooding as he stared at the locked door. Doubt crept in. Was Emmy really in there?
Jamie was so obsessively clean and disciplined—there was no way he’d ever hide a woman in his private suite. At least, that’s what anyone would think. But Dean’s gut told him otherwise. She had to be in there.
Or was he just imagining it?
Jamie was the last guy you wanted to mess with. Even in their previous standoffs, Jamie never went back to inherit the Nelson family business. He still ended up being Dean’s biggest headache, his most unpredictable rival.
No one knew what Jamie actually wanted. He never seemed to want anything at all, and that made him the most dangerous kind of person.
Any woman with half a brain would know to stay far away from him.
But Emmy, stubborn as ever, would rather go to Jamie for help than come to him. Just to spite him, she’d put herself in the lion’s den.
Dean wanted to take that foolish woman and shake some sense into her—see what on earth she was thinking.
"Dean, what’s wrong?" Evelina hurried over, worry written all over her face.
Dean dropped his hand from his chest, his voice cold and flat. "Nothing."
He fixed his eyes on her. "Did you find Emmy?"
Evelina’s face fell. She shook her head. "No. But I saw Teresa already heading home—she didn’t look worried about Emmy at all."
"I think Emmy’s probably fine. Maybe… she’s just hiding from us on purpose?"
