Kai's POV

I walked into the emergency room of Central Wolf Hospital and the chaos parted for me. The smell of antiseptic and blood hit me, sharp and clean. Nurses rushed past, their shoes squeaking on the linoleum. A low murmur of pained groans and worried voices filled the air, but it all faded into the background. My focus was a laser beam.-

I saw the chief heart surgeon, Dr. Alistair, a respected wolf with graying temples, speaking to a nurse. I cut him off, my shadow falling over him. He flinched.

"Status?" I demanded. My voice was low, but it cut through the noise.

Dr. Alistair's face was grim, his shoulders slumped with exhaustion. He looked like he hadn't slept in a day. "Alpha, his heart is too weak. The silver poison... it's not a normal toxin. It's magical in nature. It has woven itself into the cardiac muscle at a cellular level. It's like a parasitic vine strangling the tissue from the inside."

He shook his head slowly, his eyes full of a terrible professional despair. "We have tried everything. Every chelating agent in the book, every magical purification ritual our healers know, every advanced medical procedure in our arsenal. We've even consulted with the mages at the Silver Creek Coven. Nothing touches it. All we can do now is make him comfortable."

A low growl rumbled in my chest. The word ‘comfortable' was a surrender. It was a word for the weak. I did not surrender.

"‘Comfortable' is not an option."

My hand shot out and grabbed the front of his white coat, yanking him closer until we were nose to nose. My Alpha aura flared, a palpable wave of pressure and menace that made the older wolf tremble. The air crackled around us, and a nurse down the hall dropped a metal tray with a loud clatter.
