Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 305

In the end, Theodore found himself standing in front of his grandmother.

The woman who had once loved him more than anyone else now looked at him with a gentle but weary resignation in her eyes. People crowded around her on both sides, including Emma, who was steadying her by the arm.

“Grandma…” His voice was rough as he finally spoke, the words catching in his throat. “I’ve come to take you home. Let’s leave the hospital. Let’s go back, just the two of us.”

Her expression was as kind as ever, but all she gave him in return was a quiet sigh.

“Grandma, I’m sorry. I should have come for you sooner…” Theodore couldn’t bear to imagine what she had suffered these past two weeks. The thought alone twisted painfully in his chest.

She shook her head, her voice soft and warm. “Theodore, none of this is your fault.”

“Grandma, can’t we just go home? Back to our own place?” Theodore glanced pleadingly at Emma as he spoke.

But Emma wouldn’t even look at him. Her face was frosty, unmoved, and she simply helped shepherd their grandmother toward the waiting car, surrounded by the man beside her and a small army of suited bodyguards.

The car pulled away without a backward glance, leaving Theodore standing there alone, rooted to the spot long after it had vanished from view.

Emma herself hadn’t expected Larson to find such a massive house on such short notice.

Their grandmother was even more stunned—especially by the dozens of bodyguards lined up outside like soldiers. She’d never seen anything like it. Her voice trembled a little as she called out, “Larson, what… who are all these people?”

The worry in her eyes—Are you sure they’re not up to no good?—made Larson laugh. “Don’t worry, Nana. They’re all good people. I’m a good guy too.”

She blushed, flustered. “That’s not what I meant. I just—”

“It’s wonderful…” her grandmother murmured, awe in her voice. “I never imagined I’d live to see days like this again.”

“Nana, from now on, every day will be better.” Larson’s phone kept buzzing as he spoke, but he barely glanced at it.

“Go on, take care of your work,” Emma told him. “Grandma and I can get settled on our own.”

He did have work to do. Now that his grandmother was out of the hospital, it was time to turn his full attention to launching his company. Before that, though, Latham was throwing a grand party to introduce him to the elite of Cresthaven.

Larson didn’t keep this from Emma. “You and Nana should come to the party, if you’d like. Also, I’ve already booked Nana’s visa interview, and I’ll take her there myself. The rest of the time, just relax and enjoy the house. If you want to go out, make sure you take Gaylord with you.”

Gaylord was the head of Larson’s security team.
