Tears streamed down Cecilia's face as she finally fell silent. Her eyes pleaded with Jared, *You have to save me.*
Jared breathed a small sigh of relief.
But the police weren't leaving. The commotion had attracted a swarm of reporters. The recording was a bombshell, far more sensational than the press conference itself. It was already exploding online, and the reporters descended on Jared and Cecilia, desperate for the first soundbite.
"Mr. Jared, can you please tell us what's going on?"
"Is it true Miss Chambers tried to kill Mr. Whitman's ex-wife out of jealousy?"
"What is the condition of the Rossi family?"
"Mr. Whitman isn't here today either. Was he also poisoned?"
A forest of microphones was thrust in Jared's face. The scene became so chaotic that even the police were pushed to the edge of the scrum. Someone shoved a microphone at Cecilia.
"Miss Chambers, why did you order the housekeeper to poison the Rossi family?"
"Are you and Mr. Whitman together now?"
"Do you know why Mr. Whitman is absent today?"
Cecilia's mind was a blur. She looked to Jared, completely lost.
Fearing she would say the wrong thing, Jared intercepted the questions. "We have full faith in the police to uncover the truth. Our officers will not wrong an innocent person, nor will they let a guilty one go free."
"So, Mr. Jared, are you implying that Miss Chambers has been framed?"
