Chapter 117
Especially when it came to Sienna, Mia’s disdain and disgust were clear on her face.
She said, “Grandpa, how could a woman like her ever marry into our Brown family? Letting her hang around Mason will only ruin him.
“She’s just a country bumpkin who grew up in the sticks, has no manners at all, and didn’t even finish high school. Just standing next to Mason would bring him shame.”
Mia was talking herself hoarse. “Grandpa, we know Amanda’s background well. She’s obedient and sensible, and she’s waited for Mason all these years. She’s clearly the perfect match for Mason in every way.
“And haven’t you always liked Amanda? You can’t just stand by and do nothing.”
Sherwood leaned back in his rosewood chair, eyes closed, his face calm and unreadable, giving nothing away.
It wasn’t until Mia finished that he slowly opened his eyes.
His
gaze, sharpened by years, landed on Mia with a quiet intensity.
“I get it,” Sherwood said, his voice deep and steady. “I’ve got my own plan.”
“Grandpa, you can’t just keep it in your mind. You have to do something.” Mia grew restless as Sherwood stayed indifferent. “Mason is the future of our family. His partner should be carefully chosen, not some unfit woman like her…”
“That’s enough,” Sherwood said, closing his eyes again, his face cold and unyielding. “I’m tired.”
“Grandpa.” Mia wasn’t convinced at all. It was still early in the morning. He just woke up. How could he already be tired?
She was about to say more.
But just then, the Brown family’s butler, Finn, stepped forward, his tone polite yet firm. “Mr. Brown hasn’t been feeling well recently. He needs his rest. Please leave for now.”
Mia’s expression twisted with frustration and anxiety, but she wouldn’t dare throw a tantrum in front of Sherwood. Instead, she mumbled, “But Grandpa… Amanda’s here too. She brought her soup and is waiting outside for you…”
Sherwood had always had a soft spot for Amanda, and he genuinely liked her.
Mia thought, ‘If I mention Amanda now, there’s no way Grandpa will just leave her waiting alone outside!
But Sherwood kept his eyes closed, looking completely indifferent, as if he hadn’t heard anything at all.
Finn gave a courteous gesture toward the door. “Miss Mia, this way, please.”
Mia couldn’t understand why Sherwood stayed so indifferent when she brought up Amanda.

‘Everything I’m doing is for the Brown family, for Mason! Mia thought, feeling both wronged and annoyed.
She stomped her foot in frustration, but she didn’t dare defy the real head of the Brown family, Sulking, she left the study.
The study door closed behind her.
Sherwood, who had been pretending to rest, opened his eyes again. His gaze was clear and sharp, not a hint of fatigue to be seen.
“Finn,” he said, “come up with an excuse and send Amanda home.”
Finn looked a little surprised. “Sir, I thought you were pretty happy with Amanda…”
“Whether I like her or not doesn’t matter. What counts is if Mason approves,” Sherwood replied, giving him a sideways glance. “If I could ever force that boy to do what I wanted, I’d have been holding a great–grandkid ages ago.”
Finn was lost for words. “That’s so true. Mason’s temperament is… difficult, to say the least.
Sherwood had gone to every extreme–threats, drama, even pretending to risk his life–hoping Mason would accept the engagement with the Cooper family, but Mason never caved, not once.
“But… the girl’s got something about her,” Sherwood said, stroking his chin as a genuine smile found its way onto his face.
The icy seriousness he wore moments ago vanished, replaced by amusement.
Finn, who’d worked with Sherwood for decades, caught on instantly. “You’re talking about… Sienna, the real daughter the Cooper family just brought home?”
“Yeah,” Sherwood replied, leaning back in his chair. His old eyes, sharpened by a lifetime of experience, flashed with a knowing light. “That girl’s the one who saved Sophie’s life.”
Finn, always the calm and collected one after decades by Sherwood’s side, was genuinely floored for the first time. “Wait… Are you telling me that incredible doctor at Orlathis Hospital, the one who rescued Sophie and actually cured her heart problem–that was Sienna?”
Sherwood just nodded and smiled.
Finn was astonished. “But… I heard before the Cooper family took her in, she grew up out in the countryside.”
“So what? Doesn’t matter where she was raised. If she’s got talent, she’ll stand out anywhere,” Sherwood replied, the satisfaction in his eyes growing. “Guess what, Mason called me first thing this morning.”
Finn looked genuinely surprised. “Mason called you himself?”
“Yep, can’t remember the last time he did that on his own. Apparently, it’s all about Sienna. He said he’s dropping by with her soon and told me to have a gift ready,” Sherwood said, a hint of amusement in his gaze. “You know how picky Mason and Sophie are—almost no one impresses them. But this girl? Sophie likes her, and Mason… actually picked up the phone for her.

“I’ve never seen anyone who could actually make those two care about someone before.
“And now, Sienna’s even got Mason admitting he’s got feelings for her…”

His smile grew even wider. “Finn, looks like I’m one step closer to having a great–grandkid in my arms.”
Even Finn was stunned.
