Amanda was slyly ratting out the butler.

She made it sound as if Finn hadn’t shut her out, the broth–made with Dr. C’s special Wellness Powder- wouldn’t have nearly been ruined.
Sherwood barely spared a glance at the thermos Amanda was holding out.
His tone was distant. “Amanda, that was thoughtful of you.”
That was all.
He didn’t even reach for it.
He turned away, his eyes instantly filled with enthusiasm as they landed on Sienna. With a bright grin, he reached out, clearly delighted. “Sienna, sweetheart. Come check my pulse, will you? I just can’t seem to shake off this tiredness lately…”
The shift in his attitude couldn’t have been more obvious.
Amanda’s fingers tightened unconsciously around the thermos, her smile unable to hold up under the strain.
Her face burned with shame and indignation, flustered and humiliated.
‘I put so much thought into this Wellness Powder, got Beatriz up at dawn to simmer this broth, and all I get from Sherwood is a throwaway comment?‘ Amanda’s chest tightened in resentment.
‘Yet Sienna just passes him some unlabelled pills, and Sherwood practically lights up. Has Sherwood completely lost his mind?‘ she fumed.
Seeing Amanda get snubbed while Sienna acted all professional, like she was some kind of expert checking Sherwood’s pulse, Mia’s rage was boiling over.
She couldn’t stand it anymore and wanted nothing more than to expose Sienna right in front of Sherwood.
“Grandpa, don’t let that hick Sienna scam you.” Mia snarled. “I know exactly who she is–just some useless girl they plucked out of the boonies, couldn’t even finish high school. What does she know about real medicine? All she’s got are some sketchy knockoff pills. If you actually take those, you’ll end up in the hospital. She’s nothing but a…”
“Shut your mouth.” A voice, aged yet stern and cold as thunder, suddenly exploded.
He slammed his cane against the floor, his expression grim as ice, eyes glaring coldly at Mia. “Mia, do you honestly think I’m some dotty old fool? That I can’t tell any better?”
Mia flinched, her face draining of all color.
Sherwood had always been distant with her, but he’d never given her that kind of icy glare before.

Her bravado disappeared instantly. She ducked her head in panic. “Grandpa… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that… I just… just didn’t want you to get tricked…”
“I don’t need you worrying about me,” Sherwood cut her off, his voice icy. “I know exactly who Sienna is, and I don’t need you butting in or trying to cause drama.
“Sienna is my honored guest. Either drop your petty schemes, or go back to your father’s place. Don’t come here, getting in my way ever again.”
Mia’s face went even paler.
She stared at Sherwood, disbelief and humiliation crashing over her. ‘Is he seriously scolding me in front of everyone because of this total nobody from the poor countryside? He’s not even bothering to save face for me, and now he actually wants to throw me out?‘
She just couldn’t wrap her head around it.
‘What kind of spell has Sienna cast? Not only did she manage to bewitch my cold–blooded cousin, but now even Grandpa is taking her side. Mia fumed inwardly.
The more Mia looked at Sienna, the more she couldn’t stand her. ‘She’s just like some seductress, coming in here and throwing our whole family into chaos.
But right now, she was way too scared to cause any more trouble. She just ducked her head, speaking in a tiny voice to stick up for Amanda. “Grandpa, I was out of line… please don’t be angry.
“I just couldn’t help feeling for Amanda. She scoured every corner of Orlathis City trying to find this Wellness Powder, then even went through hell and high water–flew all the way to Vuscad for the auction house, and fought tooth and nail to win it just for you. She woke up at four or five in the morning to simmer this broth…
“Dr. C’s medicine is one of those once–in–a–lifetime treasures. If you won’t drink it, wouldn’t that just break Amanda’s heart? And it’d really be such a waste to let this precious remedy go unused.”
Sherwood knew exactly how highly coveted Dr. C’s medicine was.
He also understood that even if she threw everything into the auction, scoring one of Dr. C’s rare medicines took grit, strategy, and no small amount of luck.
Sherwood’s expression softened a bit as he looked toward Finn.
Finn caught on immediately and came over to take the thermos from Amanda.
Amanda had been feeling pretty down after seeing how Sherwood favored Sienna.
But now, seeing him actually willing to drink the broth she’d brought, she finally felt a wave of relief.
All she really wanted was for Sherwood to accept her heartfelt gesture.
If he did, that meant he owed her a little bit of gratitude.
And if she had that, she still had a chance to win him over to her side.

Finn opened up the thermos.

A thick broth aroma instantly filled the room, but mixed into it was a strong, medicine–like scent, sharp and overwhelming.
That smell really wasn’t pleasant.
In fact, it was kind of nasty.
