Chapter 157
Lawrence was the first to get out of the car.
Hazel glared at the Porsche, curling her lip in scorn as she grumbled, “Shameless!”

The kid she’d raised as part of the Fairbank family was some old guy’s sugar baby. The guy was even older than they were,
The thought of everyone making jokes behind her back made her blood boil.
Hazel thought, ‘Melvin must be out of his mind. He actually thinks the Fairbank family owes everything to Sienna–the little bitch who’s been nothing but bad luck.
If it weren’t for Sienna and all her bad luck, the Fairbank family would never have ended up in such a mess.
Hazel looked over at Jessica, her daughter standing by her side with eyes rimmed red, head hanging low- looking for all the world like she was about to cry.
Hazel grabbed Jessica’s hand. “Jessica, don’t worry! Forget whatever your dad says, you’re my one and only, and no one—not even Sienna–could ever take away what belongs to you, no matter if she returns to the Fairbank family.”
With that, Hazel tugged Jessica out of the car. “Come on, Jessica, let’s go see just which old guy that slut is trying to hook up with!”
That was just what Hazel said, putting on a brave face.
But in truth, Hazel and Lawrence were both worrying about the exact same thing.
They were both afraid that Melvin might get all worked up by Sienna and then turn around and dump all his anger on Hazel.
Hazel jerked Jessica’s arm so suddenly that she almost fell right out of the car.
With a quick swipe, Jessica unlocked her phone.
All of a sudden, she spotted a new message on the screen.
Her eyes instantly lit up.

On the other side.
“Sienna! Sienna!” Melvin rushed over to the Porsche, doing his best to look cheerful through the window. “Sienna, I know I messed up. I’m here to take you home myself…”
But the window stayed rolled up.

Then, out of nowhere, the engine started up.
Melvin’s forced smile grew stiff with worry, his hand pressed anxiously to the window as he called out, “Sienna, I know you’re still upset, but I swear I’ll do whatever it takes to prove how truly sorry I am.
Tve neglected you these past four years, and I know that’s my fault! Please, come home with me. I’ve picked out a whole new room, designed exactly the way you like it!”
Melvin pressed himself right up against the window, straining to see inside. He could just barely make out two figures sitting in the back seat.
Even though he could only glimpse their vague outlines, he could feel it–plain as day, an aura of absolute elegance and highborn authority flooding out, bearing down on him like a tidal wave.
It hit him so hard his whole body froze, and a weird chill crept down his neck before he even knew it.
Could that be Sienna’s sugar daddy?‘ Melvin wondered. “That old guy with gray hair who is even older than I am? From far away, he didn’t seem this intense…
Even with the window between them, Melvin could still feel that pressure…
‘Sienna’s sugar daddy must be someone with power. No wonder Sienna didn’t go for those trust–funded kids, Melvin thought to himself.
His mind whirled as he tried to piece things together.
‘In all of Orlathis City, which old man could possibly outrank those second gens?‘
‘Could it be… Those rich boys‘ fathers? Or even their grandfathers?‘ Melvin mused, growing even more
uneasy.
Every single one of the rich kids was from the kind of big–shot elite families everyone in Orlathis City, heck, all of Aurathen, had heard of.
If he could use Sienna to cling to those families‘ real power players, that’d be way juicier than sucking up to a bunch of spoiled young guys.
The thought alone had Melvin’s eyes gleaming with greedy excitement.
He started pounding on the window even harder, practically wanting nothing more than to bust it open and stage a heartwarming father–daughter scene with Sienna, all for show.
“Sienna, is that your boyfriend sitting next to you? Why don’t you both come out and let me meet him?” Melvin said, his voice dripping with fake warmth.
He smashed his face against the glass, plastering on an eager smile. “Don’t take it the wrong way. I just remembered how your grandma always wished she could see you find a good match and walk you down the aisle in style. I just want to help fulfill her last wish.”
Melvin could tell Sienna was fuming, ready to hit the gas and leave him in the dust–she clearly had zero intention of even acknowledging him.

Right now, he could only stir up Sienna’s emotions and make her look his way again by mentioning Zea. As long as Sienna was willing to talk to him, he had loads of ways to get her back on his side.
After all, Sienna used to try to please everyone to stay in the Fairbank family.
As expected, the engine’s rumble faded away.
The window slid down just a bit, and Sienna’s cold, sharp gaze met his–staring him down with a chill that could freeze a man’s soul.
“Sienna…” Melvin felt a surge of hope and quickly put on a beaming smile. “I just knew it–you still can’t let go of your old dad! Come on now, let me get a look at your boyfriend, so I can make sure your grandma’s wishes are being looked after.”
As he spoke, Melvin stretched his neck, desperately trying to spot who was on the other side, eyes hungry for any clue as to which heavyweight from those elite families it might be.
But the window only cracked open an inch, with Sienna blocking him from seeing anything else. All he managed to glimpse was a pair of perfectly straight legs draped in black pants.
The raw, unspoken nobility coming off that figure was enough to make Melvin’s heart pound.
Inside, Melvin muttered to himself that Sienna was clearly doing this on purpose. Still, he kept flashing an even bigger smile, forcing himself to continue the farce and play his clown’s role just to keep up appearances.
“Sienna, you’ve been staying with your boyfriend lately, right? Since you left home, at least you’ve had someone to look after you, but you know, you’re still just a kid…
“Hey, I’m not stuck in the past or anything. As long as you’ve found someone who treats you well, it doesn’t matter how old he is, what kind of guy he is—even if he’s way older than you—if you two are happy, that’s all I care about, really.
and your “Why don’t you just come back with me for now, alright? I promise I won’t get between you boyfriend. Your grandma’s looking down from above–she’d want nothing more than to see you live well.”
“Melvin,” Sienna cut him off, her voice icy and sharp.
Her eyes lifted, cold as steel. “I’m only giving you this chance to keep breathing because of Grandma, but let me make this clear–you don’t have the right to even mention her in front of me.”
