Pansy sat curled up on the couch, clutching a pillow in one arm and her phone in the other, her gaze fixed intently on the screen.

She stared at her phone, reading the reply Sienna had just sent–finally, after hours of waiting.

Pansy let out a sofi sigh, her eyes full of worry. “Sienna only just got back to me… She must’ve been slammed all day. It’s already past nine–who knows if she’s even had a proper meal.”

Rolf frowned, concern etched on his face. “Sienna’s been at the institute for two days already. I bet the cafeteria doesn’t serve anything she really likes. Tomorrow… I’ll make her a nice pot of soup.”

He glanced at Theo. “Theo, drive it over to her, okay? Don’t disturb Sienna–just drop it at the door and head back.”

Theo, adjusting his gold–rimmed glasses, nodded. “Sure, I’ll take care of it tomorrow.”

Amanda scoffed to herself, listening to her family’s conversation.

‘Seriously? They’re all fussing over whether Sienna’s eating well at the institute,’ she thought, the corners of her mouth twitching with mocking amusement.

‘She never even set foot in that place! She’s totally fooled them. All of it’s fake. Man, I’d pay good money to see their faces when they realize Sienna’s been lying to them, Amanda thought. ‘And now it is the perfect

moment.‘

Amanda deliberately made her finger twitch, and the teacup slipped from her hand, hitting the floor with a loud clatter.

Amanda’s lips quivered as she hesitated, glancing anxiously at her dad.

But she dropped her gaze, muttering in a small voice, “I… I just didn’t hold it steady enough…”

“Amanda,” Rolf said, his brow furrowing, his sharp gaze zeroing in on her.

He narrowed his eyes, and even for his age, the weight of his authority filled the room. “If you have something to say, just spit it out. What’s with all the dithering? Is this what we taught you in the Cooper family?”

Amanda bit her lip, her face flooded with panic.

After hesitating for a good while, she finally put on a worried look and spoke softly, “Grandpa, I… I’m just really worried…”

Her fingers tightened around each other, and after building up her courage, she continued in a hesitant voice, “I happened to bump into Professor Sharp’s assistant today–he’s actually my senior at Disey University. I took the chance to ask him about Sienna’s project, hoping maybe I could join in and help out. But… but he told me the institute isn’t working on any big national projects right now…”

Seeing her family’s faces shift in an instant, Amanda kept up her tone and expression of concern. “Is Sienna in some kind of trouble? Why else would she make up a story about going to the institute? She’s out there alone, and I’m honestly really worried about her… What if someone tricked her? What if she ends up hurting herself or something…”

She let her words trail off, not saying anything else.

But everything she said was pushing her family to wonder about Sienna’s reasons for lying to them.

“That’s impossible,” Theo said firmly, eyes cold behind his gold–rimmed glasses as he looked up, brows drawn together. “I spoke to Professor Sharp myself just yesterday–he clearly stated that the institute is running a major project and specifically needs Sienna’s expertise. She’s over there right now, helping out.”

Amanda’s face flickered, a subtle shift passing over her features.

‘So Professor Sharp himself vouched for it, huh…‘

‘No wonder the whole family bought it so easily.’

‘Seriously, who’d ever think that someone like Professor Sharp–a national security big shot, a superstar professor at Disey University, basically a living legend–would actually help Sienna pull off a lie?‘

Honestly, Amanda couldn’t wrap her head around why Professor Sharp would go out of his way to back Sienna up.

She clenched her fingers, feigning even more confusion and innocence. “Theo, why would I make this up? That guy

isn’t just any senior–he’s Professor Sharp’s right–hand man. Nothing happens in that team without him knowing; every single project gets logged by him.”

She paused, her eyes growing wide with fake realization. “Wait… does this mean it’s some kind of hush–hush project, so secret even Professor Sharp’s assistant is kept in the dark? That’d have to be way above top clearance. Sienna… could she really be running something so high up the chain?”

Theo and the others were staring at her now, their brows knitting tighter, their eyes full of suspicion.

Amanda kept up her act, looking clueless and worried. “Should I… should I just call my senior again to check? Maybe he really doesn’t have the clearance for something like this.”

She didn’t hesitate–right in front of the whole family, Amanda dialed Darren’s number and switched it to speaker mode.

Darren’s reply came through, loud and clear. “Amanda, honestly, if there was anything going on, I’d absolutely tell you. I double–checked after you asked–there’s really nothing new happening, no fresh faces joining either.

“Every project under Professor Sharp is registered through me–there’s nothing that escapes my notice or falls outside my clearance, unless even Professor Sharp himself couldn’t access it, which is obviously impossible.”

Amanda stole a nervous glance at her family before she spoke. “Alright… thank you, Senior Darren. Bye.”

After Amanda hung up, an uneasy hush fell over the Cooper Manor–so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Everyone was frozen in place, the silence thick as tension.

The whole Cooper family wore heavy, anxious looks–the only thing showing in their eyes was worry.

Even though Amanda had tried to nudge them toward suspicion, not a single person in the Cooper family actually doubted Sienna. All that lingered was deep, unwavering concern.
