Chapter 20
From inside the room came Sienna’s voice. “Come in, Mom.”

Pansy walked in happily. Amanda stayed outside, and when the door shut, Pansy didn’t even bother to look back at her.
Even through the door, Amanda could hear Pansy’s cheerful laughter from inside.
Amanda clenched her fists around the jewelry box Sienna had given back to her, gritting her teeth in fury.
Her parents had said before that they wouldn’t play favorites, that even after Sienna came back, they’d treat everyone the same. But that was a lie. Pansy was already completely on Sienna’s side.
Fine. When her brothers came home, she’d show Sienna what favoritism really looked like.
That evening, Sienna once again felt the overwhelming love from her grandpa and parents at the dinner table.
Good thing she had a healthy appetite-most people wouldn’t have been able to handle that much love.
After eating, Sienna sat in the living room with Rolf and her parents, answering their endless questions about her past.
Her face stayed calm and cool, but she was patient, replying one by one. When it came to her days with the Fairbank family or in the countryside, she only brushed over them.
Amanda sat off to the side on another sofa, trying to join in, but she couldn’t even get a word in. It was like the warm family scene in front of her had no place for her at all. She felt shut out-and it frustrated her.
At that moment, Beatriz, the housekeeper who had been standing behind Amanda, suddenly said with a smile, “I heard Amanda passed Professor Sharp’s qualification exam recently. Once her paper gets published, she’ll officially become his student, right?”
The three people on the sofa seemed to just then remember the adopted daughter nearby.
Gerard nodded with approval. “We never had to worry about Amanda. Becoming Professor Sharp’s student means she’ll have to work even harder.”
“The exam wasn’t as tough as people said,” Amanda said sweetly. “Professor Sharp also helped me a lot with this paper, so I think it should be fine.”
Pansy chimed in with praise, “Amanda has rarely given us trouble with schoolwork since she was little.”
“That’s all thanks to your good teaching,” Amanda smiled, then casually turned toward Sienna. “What about you, Sienna? I heard you went to school in the countryside before, and then after going back to the Fairbank family, you dropped out before finishing high school, right?”
The moment she said this, Gerard and Pansy’s faces darkened, their brows knitting together.
Amanda acted like she didn’t notice and continued innocently, “Sienna, I don’t mean it in a bad way. I was just thinking that if you wanted to keep studying, I could help you.”
She even put on a worried face. “Now that you’re home, it wouldn’t look good for Mom and Dad if outsiders found out you never even finished high school.”
She knew the Cooper family had always valued education and achievement. The three Cooper sons-and even herself-

were all pushed to excel in school. Surely her parents would look down on a country girl who didn’t even graduate high
school.
“Speaking of which, Sienna, do you want to keep studying? If you do, just tell me which school you’d like, and I’ll put in a good word for you.” Gerard wasn’t worried about losing face-he was worried about Sienna.
Now that she was back, once the welcome home party was held, she’d definitely be in the spotlight.
And once people found out she was the Cooper family’s daughter, they’d start digging into her past.
In their circle, grades and diplomas didn’t mean everything, but one couldn’t have nothing at all.
