Outside the Golden Throne Club, the neon-blue sports car screeched to a stop, instantly drawing attention.
The flashing lights outside were almost blinding, and the heavy bass from inside thumped through the air.
Alvin hopped out, clutching his stomach with a pained expression. He shoved a dark-gold key card into Sienna’s hand. “Sienna, I can’t hold it. You go up first. This card gets you into Zenith Hall. It leads straight to the top-floor suites. Everyone’s waiting. I gotta take care of some urgent business.”
Before she could answer, he hunched over and bolted.
Sienna shook her head with a faint smile, slipped the card into her pocket, and headed for Zenith Hall, the Golden Throne Club’s newest and most exclusive area. Only the truly powerful could get in.
The moment she stepped into the dazzling, dimly lit lobby, a voice rang out in surprise. “Hey, isn’t that Sienna?”
She calmly lifted her eyes and saw Lauren, the fourth son of the Fairbanks, strutting over in sunglasses with Jessica clinging to his arm. Jessica wore a designer white dress, her makeup and hairstyle flawless, looking every bit the pampered princess.
Four of their friends followed close behind, spreading out to block Sienna’s way.
Lauren’s face twisted with disgust the second he saw Sienna. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“Sienna, this is the most expensive club in Orlathis City. Why’d you follow us here?” Jessica chimed in sweetly.
Her words dripped with false concern, but her eyes flashed with smugness. “This place costs a fortune. You just moved back in with your real parents in the countryside. Shouldn’t you be getting used to your new life?”
“Country girls should stay in the country. Why come here, a place that burns money? Can you even afford it?” Lauren sneered, his gaze sweeping over Sienna’s simple white T-shirt and black pants with open contempt.
“Jessica, you’re too softhearted,” Lauren added, his tone full of scorn. “I bet she still hasn’t given up. She knew we were coming here tonight, so she followed us to pester us.
“You acted all tough when you cut ties with our family, but what now? Can’t handle it anymore? You bugged Windsor at the hospital this morning, and now you’re stalking us here. You want us to take you back, right?”
“Lauren, don’t talk about Sienna like that.” Jessica tugged his arm, then turned to Sienna with fake kindness. “Sienna, I know you don’t want to go back to the countryside. It’s hard there. But they’re your real family. You can’t abandon them just because the Fairbank family is rich.”
She pulled a card from her designer purse. “This is my allowance from Mom. There’s 30 thousand dollars on it. Take it and leave.”
Lauren immediately blocked her hand. “Jessica, why give her money? Dad already offered her some, and she was too proud to take it. Why should we?”
His eyes narrowed with a cold laugh. “And for all we know, maybe she’s here for your fiance.”
“Ernest?” Jessica gasped, covering her mouth. Her eyes watered as she bit her lip and gave Sienna a pitiful look. “I know you still like Ernest, but he’s my fiancé now. If you keep chasing him, you just look pathetic.”
She might as well have called Sienna a homewrecker.
Sienna watched them put on their act like clowns. She slowly lifted her eyes, a cold, mocking smile tugging at her lips.
