Chapter 6
I took Titan only thirty minutes to get in Orlathis Hospital.
Sienna told him to take the car back to the team and followed Eden’s directions to the right ward.
From down the hall, she could see a cluster of doctors in white conts-some senior doctors and professors-gathered and arguing The mood was tight and tense,
Leaning against the wall stood a blonde, curly haired doctor with her arms crossed. She looked bored and superior, like she hadn’t bothered to join the rest
When footsteps came, a few heads turned.
Eden spotted Sienna and froze. Even in a plain white T-shirt, black pants, a baseball cap, and a canvas bag, Sienna’s cool, controlled presence made her impossible to ignore.
Her face was striking-Gerard’s and Pansy’s faces blended into one. One could tell at a glance she belonged to them.
But unlike Pansy, Sienna’s eyes didn’t hold warmth. They were still and cold, with a dangerous edge.
Eden practically rushed over, eyes red. “Miss Cooper, you finally made it.”
“How’s the patient?” Sienna asked, hands in her pockets as she walked up.
Eden blinked and steadied himself. “Thank God you were on the line. She’s stable for now, Dr. Nelson-she knows a bit of traditional medicine-has been watching her. The allergic reaction is casing, blood pressure and heart rate are coming up, and she’s showing signs of waking.”
Sienna peered through the viewing window. A girl no older than seventeen or eighteen lay pale on the bed, hooked up to monitors and IVs. Her vitals were still weak.
Sienna said flatly, “There’s an internal organ rupture. The bleeding hasn’t fully stopped, and the allergic shock from the wrong treatment made her even weaker. The time we’ve bought with acupuncture is limited.”
She checked her watch. “At most thirty minutes. If we can’t find and stop the bleeding in that window, she’s going to get a lot worse. A second big bleed and she won’t make it.”
Eden’s eyes widened. “Then what do we do? Dr. Windrow said surgery is too risky-she’s got heart issues.”
“No surgery,” Sienna said, taking her eyes off the patient.
A sharp, mocking laugh cut through the hallway. The blonde doctor-Jennifer-drifted forward, face full of smug satisfaction. “No surgery? You really think a few needles will fix this, huh?”
She sneered, “What Ella did earlier was just a desperate kick to her system-fake signs of recovery. You stopped the real plan and nearly got her killed. Now you’re scared, huh? Too late.”
To Jennifer, the patient’s allergic reaction was no coincidence-it was the result of Sienna’s curse. First, Sienna ruined her rescue plan by phone, then her words seemed to bring disaster, leaving Jennifer ashamed and furious.
Seeing her now only made that loathing worse. Jennifer couldn’t believe a young girl who looked barely twenty dared to challenge her.
