Chapter 61
Fairbank Group? Rolf Cooper frowned. “Who is it?”
How could just anyone come charging in and block his path?
“Let go of me!” Melvin struggled violently, his voice hoarse and desperate. “Please… Please show mercy. I beg you to give the Fairbank Group a way to survive!”
As he spoke, Melvin harshly pulled Lauren next to him. “Hurry up and apologize!”
Lauren was staggered by the pull and suddenly fell to his knees. His face was full of humiliation.
Hazel’s eyes darted around, and she quickly stuffed the designer bag she was carrying into her daughter’s
hand.
Then, crying, she knelt in front of Rolf’s wheelchair. “All the mistakes are ours! We brought our rebellious son here to apologize to the Cooper family! As long as the Cooper family is willing to continue cooperating with us, the Fairbank family is willing to do anything to repay you!”
After all, everyone coming and going here was someone of high status, wealthy, or powerful.
Now that they were begging forgiveness, surely the Cooper family would be forced by public opinion to show
mercy.
The sight of the three of them kneeling one after another was shocking. Something unheard of in a place like Moon Restaurant, which only the elite could enter.
Even the well-trained security guards didn’t react right away. It was only after a few seconds that they rushed forward to restrain the three of them.
Jessica felt extremely humiliated and didn’t want to be involved with them in any way. Clutching Hazel’s designer bag, she shrank into the crowd.
“Grandpa, they are Sienna’s former parents,” Gerard whispered to Rolf. “Back then, Sienna was mistakenly taken home by the Fairbank family and raised there. When we brought Sienna back recently, we wanted to thank them for raising her all these years, so we offered them a partnership for the core project on that piece of land in the west of the city, just to give them a hand.”
“So they’re the ones who raised Sienna?” Hearing that they had raised Sienna, Rolf’s expression softened. Looking at the three people whom the security guards were dragging away, he quickly said, “Wait!”
As he spoke, he pushed at the wheels of his chair, intending to go over and help them up.
After all, they had raised Sienna for twenty years. He owed them that much respect.
Seeing Rolf’s sudden change in attitude, Melvin’s heart leapt with joy.
As expected, the Cooper family still valued them. Just knowing they were the Fairbank family made them change their tune. That meant the contract with the Cooper family could still be salvaged!
.
Feeling pleased with himself, Melvin shoved away the guards restraining him and said arrogantly, “Mr. Rolf Cooper has spoken. Get lost! We’re the Cooper family’s future business partners!”
But just as Rolf was about to wheel himself over, Theo added lightly, “Grandpa, that contract with the Fairbank family was personally canceled by Sienna.”
The wheelchair stopped abruptly.
Rolf frowned. “What’s going on?”
Theo’s eyes narrowed slightly, and behind the lenses of his glasses, the usually gentle gaze glinted with icy sharpness. “Sienna said only one thing, that she owes the Fairbank family nothing, and there’s no need for gratitude or compensation.”
Rolf’s face immediately darkened. Even though he had only spent a week with Sienna, he knew his granddaughter. She might seem cold and reserved on the outside, but she was deeply emotional.
And she was someone who served the country and brought honor to it. Her character was beyond reproach.
Such a sweet, soft, well-behaved, and capable child would never be so indifferent to the family that raised her or personally cancel the cooperation they gave to the Fairbank family unless the Fairbank family had done something excessive that completely broke her heart.
Instantly, a burst of anger flared up in his heart.
Yet, Melvin was still complacent and approached Rolf Cooper with a fawning smile, saying, “Mr. Rolf Cooper, I knew you were reasonable. If there’s any misunderstanding between us, let’s talk face to face…”
“Get out!” Rolf changed his face again, roaring with vigor.
He cast a cold, disgusted glance at the three of them, and let out a sharp laugh. “What misunderstanding? Who do you think you are? Worthless trash!”
The smiles on the Fairbank family’s faces froze. ‘What’s going on? How could his attitude change so quickly?’
They were stunned until Rolf was about to take his party to the inner courtyard of Moon Restaurant before they reacted.
Before they could say anything, they heard Rolf’s cold voice again. “Reuben, watch carefully and don’t let these things disturb our meal!”
The Fairbank family was so dumbfounded that they wanted to pounce on him.
Reuben Lester, the general manager of Moon Restaurant, had already stopped with a smiling but warning tone. “Mr. Fairbank, if you want to continue dining at Moon Restaurant, please remain quiet and dignified, return to your seat, and do not make any more rude moves. If you disturb other guests again, we can only ask you to leave.”
The three Fairbanks were burning with humiliation but had no choice but to endure it. Under the pointing fingers and murmurs of the other guests, they slunk back to their table in disgrace,
Chapte
Of course they couldn’t be kicked out. This was their last hope.
When they got back to their table, they saw Jessica already sitting there, her eyes red. When she saw them, she burst into tears and ran over to them.
Seeing their daughter cry like this, they swallowed back the questions they had wanted to ask about where she had gone just now.
