Chapter 85

Chapter 85

Sophie frowned.

She hesitated for a few seconds. Then she hummed in agreement.

After thinking for a moment, she added, “I’m with my friend. That bike was a gift from my friend.”

But the man on the other end didn’t seem to hear a single word she said. In an utterly self-righteous tone, he ordered, “I’m in the VIP Section C. Hurry up and bring me Ghost’s key!”

Sophie tried to refuse. “No, that’s…”

“Sophie!” The man’s voice suddenly turned harsh, full of displeasure, cutting her off. “I know you only came to Phantom Bay because you knew I brought Cora here, didn’t you? I’ve told you so many times, I only see Cora as a little sister. Why do you insist on thinking all sorts of dirty thoughts about such a pure and kind girl?”

The man continued, “If you hadn’t bullied Cora at school and embarrassed her so badly that she couldn’t even show her face, would I have had to come here with her just to apologize on your behalf? And now you’ve even followed us here.”

He added, “With your heart condition, can you handle being here? Are you planning to collapse just to make me stay? Stop using your heart condition to manipulate me. Give me the keys and go home!”

He rattled off his words like a machine gun, as if everything he did was some grand favor for Sophie, cleaning up her messes. As if Sophie should be grateful for his “efforts.”

Sophie frowned more and more as she listened, her face turning rather unpleasant. “Declan, when have I ever bullied Cora? She was the one forming cliques at school to target others, but she’s just stupid. She got caught red-handed and was publicly criticized. How is that my fault?”

“Sophie, don’t think that just because you have some money, you can bully an innocent girl like her!” Declan didn’t listen to her explanation. “Cora wants to see me race on Ghost. So hurry up. The race is about to start! Don’t be so ungrateful. I’m doing all this for you!”

Sophie tightened her grip on the phone.

She lowered her eyes, looking at the keys in her other hand, which had a ghost totem on them. Her fingers slowly traced the outline of the emblem.

After a few seconds, she took a deep breath and, for the first time in her life, told Declan no. “I told you. This was a gift from my friend. I can’t give it to you.”

“Sophie, why are you making this a big deal between us?” Declan’s tone grew impatient and annoyed, tinged with humiliation at being rejected. “It’s just a bike! I told you to bring it, so bring it! If you keep being this disobedient, then don’t blame me if, from now on… I stop caring about you altogether!”

Sophie’s eyes turned wet.

On the other end of the phone, a pretentious and affected voice sounded again. “Declan, don’t talk to Sophie like that. You know how much Sophie cares about you. If you don’t care about her, how will she live in the

future?”

Cora added, “Sophie must still be mad at me. Maybe… maybe I should just leave? Declan, apologize to Sophie. The bullying at school was my fault, not Sophie’s.”

Cora Romero’s voice even wavered at the end, like she was about to cry, as though terrified the whole world wouldn’t realize just how wronged she was.

But Declan snapped, “You’re not going anywhere! She’s just spoiled, that’s all. She’s used to throwing

tantrums!”

As he spoke, he grew increasingly furious, his voice suddenly rising. “Sophie, I’m giving you ten minutes. If you don’t bring Ghost to me in ten minutes, then I…”

Sophie’s fingers clenched tightly around the phone, her eyes red as if she was about to cry.

Her nails dug so deeply into her palm that they broke the skin, and she didn’t even notice.

Suddenly, a warm hand covered hers.

Sophie froze, her body stiffening slightly as she raised her tearful eyes in a daze.

Her eyelashes were slightly wet, making her look pitiful.

Just as she was about to speak, Sienna lifted a finger and pressed it gently against her lips.

Then she bent down slightly, bringing her lips close to the phone’s receiver, her voice cool and clear. “And if she doesn’t, then what?”

In an instant, Sophie’s heart began to beat rapidly.

She stared at that breathtakingly flawless face just inches from her own.

Her face flushed red. All traces of sadness vanished.

On the other end, Declan was silent for a moment before realizing what had happened. “You… you must be the racer Sophie hired, right? This is between me and her. Who do you think you are, butting in?”

His tone dripped with disdain. “I’ll tell you this. Sophie bought Ghost and had you ride it to bring her to Phantom Bay just so she could hand it over to me in person!”

Sienna let out a soft laugh, her beautiful brows and eyes edged with frost. “You want the bike? Then come get it yourself.”

Declan instantly exploded. “You give the phone back to Sophie right now, you…”

The string of curses and filth pouring out of his mouth was unbearable to listen to.

Sienna had no intention of letting such foul words stain Sophie, this pure little white jasmine.

She decisively hung up, cutting off his tirade mid-rant.

Straightening up, Sienna pulled back, putting a bit of space between them.

Lowering her lashes, Sienna looked down at Sophie, who was still staring blankly at her. She frowned slightly, “What? Do you think I was too harsh?”

“No!” Sophie’s round eyes glistened. “It’s just… Sienna, you’re too pretty, I got distracted!”
