Forsaken Until My Last Breath novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

The pediatrician carefully examined the injuries, his face showing shock.

The Walker family’s background, not to mention the baby’s status, made the injuries seem unbelievable.

He hesitated before speaking. “These injuries were probably intentional.”

Vincent’s face darkened as he asked, “Speak your mind directly.”

The pediatrician wiped the sweat from his face; Vincent’s expression was terrifying.

He thought for a moment, pointed at the marks on the baby, and said, “These are pinch marks, those are frostbite, and this looks like needle pricks.”

Seeing Vincent’s icy expression, he continued to explain.

“These injuries on the baby were probably inflicted over the past couple of days.”

Vincent had a suspicion in his heart, but it was too unbelievable, and his mind became confused for a moment.

He carefully covered the baby with the blanket, stared at her for a long moment, picked her up, and went straight downstairs.

Downstairs, Susan had just finished brewing tea and came out. Seeing Vincent carrying the child down, her teacup shook, hot water splashed onto her hand, she cried out in pain, and the cup fell to the floor.

Meeting Vincent’s dark gaze, Susan felt her heart racing. Ignoring the burning pain in her hand, she rushed forward.

“Vincent, where are you taking the baby?”

Vincent stared at her with fury-filled eyes, each word dripping ice.

“Leaving him with you nearly cost his life!”

Suddenly, Vincent felt he’d never truly known this woman. Her year of tenderness now seemed all an act.

His instincts screamed that everything about Susan felt wrong.

His questioning gaze never wavered as he tightened his hold on the infant, voice arctic. “Take care of the other child. If anything happens again, you’ll never see the children.”

Watching Vincent stride away without looking back, Susan felt drained of strength,

She immediately called her mother, recounting the day’s events. They talked for hours, strategizing solutions.

Vincent took the baby to Walker Private Medical Center where multiple physicians conducted examinations.

Results soon confirmed unanimous diagnostic conclusions.

The pediatric specialist delivered a detailed report.

“Based on our diagnosis, the bruises aren’t from simple exposure to cold. Someone deliberately left the baby outside for an hour or two before bringing him into an air-conditioned room. The temperature shock caused this. As for the needle marks, those were made today. The pinch marks-some are from yesterday, others from today.’

Vincent’s eyes burned with rage as he watched the peacefully sleeping infant. He lowered his voice. “Could there be complications? He’s so small,”

The doctors, having completed all tests, shook their heads in unison. “No.”

Vincent exhaled slightly.

He summoned his secretary, his tone grave. “Track them down! Leave no stone unturned.”

Who could be so heartless-attacking a defenseless infant?

A bit more force, and the child wouldn’t have survived.

The physicians shared his outrage, eager to uncover the culprit.
