Forsaken Until My Last Breath novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Vincent stared at the expressionless woman, letting out a cold laugh.

“Rebecca, seems I’ve spoiled you too much these years! Divorce? Don’t even dream of it in this lifetime!”

He grabbed Rebecca’s chin and crushed his lips against hers.

Rebecca shoved at Vincent’s shoulders, but her long-ailing body couldn’t withstand the fury of this enraged man.

Vincent’s burning hands pushed aside Rebecca’s nightgown. When his fingers brushed her frail body beneath the fab- ric, he froze abruptly, confusion flickering in his eyes. “How did you get this thin?”

Rebecca turned her face away, voice icy. “My figure naturally can’t compare to your Susan.”

Vincent snapped completely. “Rebecca, are you determined to spite me?”

His movements turned reckless and violent, devoid of any tenderness. Pain forced Rebecca to bite her lip bloody. He’d never treated her like this during intimacy.

In the man’s furious gaze, Rebecca saw none of their past warmth. In that instant, she finally understood-Vincent had changed.

He was now the head of the Walker family.

He was the father of Susan’s child.

But he was no longer the husband who’d once doted on her bone-deep.

Face buried in the pillow, she clamped her mouth shut, refusing to let a single sound escape.

After an indeterminate amount of time, Vincent finally felt satisfied.

He was just about to speak to Rebecca when his phone rang-a distinctive ringtone signaling Susan.

Vincent paused, instinctively glancing at Rebecca lying face down on the bed. The woman remained motionless, as if hearing nothing.

The phone kept ringing, its chime cycling repeatedly, until Vincent finally reached over to answer it.

“Vincent… my stomach hurts.” Susan’s voice came through the receiver, weak and pained between shallow breaths.

Vincent immediately rose from the bed, soothing her, “Be good, wait for me. I’m coming right back.”

After dressing, he walked to the doorway. Turning back, he looked at Rebecca still lying face down. His lips parted briefly, but ultimately he said nothing, leaving without another glance.

Once he was gone, Rebecca stopped suppressing herself, coughing violently. Nicole, who’d been lingering outside,

rushed in.

Her eyes took in Rebecca’s body covered in dark bruises, and the pools of dried blood staining the black bedsheets.

The dim room and dark bedding masked the stains. Consumed by rage and desire, Vincent had completely missed Re- becca’s distress.

Nicole hurriedly helped Rebecca up, wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth with tissues over and over, sob- bing, “How could he treat you like this!”

Rebecca saw Nicole crying bitterly, but she didn’t feel much herself.

She said calmly, her voice tired, “It’s okay.”

Vincent didn’t love her anymore, so nothing else mattered.

She was tired.

Hearing this, Nicole cried even harder.

The next day, in the Walker family chat group, Vincent added Susan and talked about the child being added to the family tree.

No one in the group objected; it was all congratulations, completely disregarding Rebecca’s feelings.

“Congratulations on the birth of your son!”

“Securing that land in Phoenix and having a baby-double blessings!”
