Forsaken Until My Last Breath novel Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Rebecca’s sharp rebuke made Vincent freeze.

His gaze flickered as he instinctively stepped forward, reaching out to help her up.

“Vincent, I’m having pregnant discomfort.” Susan’s soft, plaintive voice from behind halted his steps.

Without hesitation, he turned toward her, instructing the driver Michael Walker, “Take Madam home.”

Through the rearview mirror, Michael watched Rebecca stare blankly out the window, her entire being drained hol-

low.

Recalling the conversation he’d accidentally overheard last night, he hesitated before deciding to speak. “Young Miss, the Eldest Young Master’s death… it’s suspicious.”

Michael was Nicole’s son, raised in the White household since childhood. After the White family’s downfall, Nicole and Michael had followed Rebecca into the Walker family.

Though Vincent was the head, Rebecca remained the loyalty they owed.

Rebecca whirled around, eyes locked on Michael in the driver’s seat. “Tell me everything you heard.”

Michael recounted verbatim. “Yesterday, Kyle White came to see Susan. I overheard him say the Eldest Young Mas- ter seemed to have uncovered some secret between the Whites and Walkers before he died.”

Rebecca’s hand clenched tightly on the seat, knuckles whitening. Icy coldness filled her eyes as she finally spoke after a long pause. “Keep watching.”

Michael answered, “Alright.”

Three days later, Susan arrived.

This time, she swaggered in with her belly proudly protruding. Kyle dragged a bloodied figure from the car and dumped him on the ground.

The man lay motionless, his legs bent at unnatural angles.

The familiar silhouette made Rebecca and Nicole gasp in horror. They rushed over, trembling hands carefully cradling his head. “Michael! My boy!”

Seeing Michael covered in blood, Nicole whimpered in anguish before collapsing unconscious.

Michael had grown up alongside Rebecca and Kyle in the White household all these years-she’d always treated him like her own brother. How dare Susan… How could she?

Rebecca shouted furiously at Susan, “What have you done to him? We grew up together!”

Susan smirked dismissively. “The housekeeper’s son, just a servant. Only you’d make a fuss.”

Kyle nudged the barely breathing Michael with his foot, drawling carelessly, “Stole millions from the family. We did- n’t press charges-just broke his legs. Got off easy.”

Watching Kyle and Susan’s smug arrogance, Rebecca clenched her fists and glared at Susan, her voice icy. “State your demands. Now.”

Susan stepped closer, her brazen smile widening with each stride. “Don’t you know what I want?”

Seeing Rebecca’s calm expression, Susan added fuel to the fire. “Rebecca, did you know? Your brother actually had a chance to be saved back then. Vincent deliberately chose not to rescue him.”

Boom!

The words exploded like thunder beside Rebecca’s ears.

She gritted her teeth. “I don’t believe it. He wouldn’t do that.”

Susan seemed to have anticipated this. She pulled out her phone and tapped open a photo. “Open your eyes wide and look carefully. When actory building caught fire, Vincent stood right there watching. He watched your brother

rned alive. Your brother’s watch is still locked in Vincent’s office safe.”

Rebecca’s fingertips turned cold as she gazed at the picture, murmuring, “Why…”

“Everyone thinks Vincent loves you deeply. No one would ever imagine he used your brother as bait to eliminate his biggest rival, shed the label of bastard, and climb his way up.”

After saying this, Susan smiled smugly and glanced disdainfully at Michael lying helplessly on the ground. “As for him eavesdropping where he shouldn’t, I’ll be merciful since he used to serve the Whites-just teach him a lesson.”

Kyle still tried to kick the motionless Michael, but Rebecca shoved him away, eyes blazing as she yelled, “Stop! Hit me if you dare! Don’t touch him!”

The vicious rage in Rebecca’s bloodshot eyes made fearless Kyle stumble backward. He spat on the ground and mut- tered, “Psycho.”

After Susan and Kyle left, Rebecca frantically called an ambulance. Paramedics arrived to find Michael bloodied and pale on the stretcher.

Remembering how he’d trailed her daily as a child calling “Sister,” Rebecca gasped sharply and vomited blood.

Alarmed medics cried, “Miss, are you okay? Quick, help her up too!”
