From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 219

Olivia Bennett’s heart squeezed painfully in her chest as she held Ethan Carter tight, her voice barely a whisper. “I’m sorry.”

He was right—she was scared, maybe too scared for her own good.

Every little thing, every whisper of trouble, set her on edge. She panicked. She always imagined the worst, locked herself up behind invisible walls, trying to shield her heart from any more hurt.

She’d rather hide inside her own shell than ever risk being wounded again.

“I don’t want your apology,” Ethan said, gently pulling her away.

The sudden emptiness where his arms had been made Olivia freeze, fear rising until she couldn’t even speak.

Ethan cupped her tear-streaked face, his eyes softening with concern. He brushed her tears away with his thumb. “Hey, no more tears.”

Seeing her cry hurt him, too.

He wasn’t trying to blame her or accuse her of anything. He just wanted to break through that wall she’d built, for both their sakes.

He wanted honesty, real trust—because that was the only way they could make it.

When she realized he wasn’t leaving, Olivia exhaled, her lips trembling as she forced herself to calm down.

Ethan sat down on the couch and tugged her onto his lap. He wrapped one arm around her waist, the other hand cradling the back of her head, their foreheads pressed together.

“When we got married, I told you I was in it for real. That hasn’t changed. There’s no one else for me, not now, not ever.”

“I promise—I won’t lie to you.”

His voice was low and steady, and Olivia felt her heart tremble again, but this time with hope.

Back when they’d said their vows, she hadn’t really believed his words. But now she realized—Ethan had always meant them.

He sighed and stroked her hair. “I don’t want your apologies. I want your trust.”

He looked right into her eyes, his words coming slow and careful. “Can you give me that?”

Olivia blinked, something bittersweet welling up inside her. She nodded, finally letting herself believe him—at least for now, in this moment.

Whatever the future brought, right now, she wanted to trust Ethan Carter.

A hint of a smile curved his lips. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to her flushed eyelids. “No more crying, okay? It breaks my heart.”
