From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 223

Olivia Bennett never expected that the very first thing Ethan Carter would do was settle old scores.

She bit her lip, looked away, and played dumb. “You don’t even wear cologne.”

Ethan reached out, gently turning her face back with a finger under her chin. Olivia had nowhere to hide. She peeked at him, and before Ethan could react, she quickly tiptoed and kissed him on the lips. Batting her lashes, she pleaded softly, “Can we just forget what happened earlier?”

It had stung at first, sure. Now, though, it just seemed a little embarrassing. She hadn’t figured out anything before she’d gone off on Ethan for no real reason at all.

Her wide, innocent eyes blinked at him, practically begging for forgiveness—so innocent, it just made you want to tease her.

Ethan’s gaze darkened, and he wasn’t about to let himself off the hook, either. He cupped the back of her head and leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that left no room for doubt.

Olivia stayed perfectly still—compliant, sweet, and soft in his arms.

When he finally let her go, Ethan’s eyes were so intense it felt like they could set her on fire.

Olivia braced her hands on his knees, looking up at him with that little face, “Did you forget now?”

Ethan was helpless against her. He figured he was getting the better end of the deal anyway.

Watching her, he swallowed hard, then nodded, “Yeah. I forgot.”

A smile bloomed instantly on Olivia’s face. “Good. Some things are better left forgotten.”

Ethan pinched her cheek, drawing her into his arms. “Feeling a little regret now?”

Olivia nestled into his chest, breathing in his scent, cheeks puffed out in a pout. “I was just scared, okay? Think about it—if I came home smelling like some other guy’s cologne, what would you do?”

Ethan didn’t miss a beat. “Break his legs.”

Olivia stared at him, dumbstruck.

After a moment, she touched her own thigh, voice wary. “You… you wouldn’t break mine, right?”

Ethan glanced down at her legs, as if he were genuinely considering it.

Olivia huffed and pushed away from his embrace, glaring at him. “Ethan Carter, you wouldn’t dare!”

A grin tugged at Ethan’s lips. He just pulled her right back into his arms. “I couldn’t. Wouldn’t have the heart.”

Olivia’s mouth curled in an uncontainable smile, a rush of sweetness filling her chest. “That day’s never coming.”
