Carlson Baker pulled up a chair and dropped down beside her. "Hey, you should be grateful there’s food at all. Complain any more, and I might just keep it for myself."
Elaine Carter shot him a sideways look, lips curling into a smirk. "Look at you, all grown up and married. Suddenly you know how to treat your lady. Showing up with treats for your darling—guess we’re all lucky Olivia’s around to reap the benefits."
Adelina Lane gave her a pointed look. "Elaine, does your mouth ever take a break?"
Elaine stuck out her tongue playfully.
Olivia Bennett felt her cheeks warm at Elaine’s teasing.
Ethan Carter glanced over at her cards. "How much did you lose?"
"Way too much," Olivia groaned.
Just talking about it made Olivia’s face scrunch up like she’d bitten into a lemon. She pouted, looking pathetically defeated.
Ethan grinned, popped open the pastry box, and handed her a slice of cake. "Here, have some cake. I’ll take over."
Olivia nodded and scooted her chair aside to make room.
She took a bite of the fluffy cupcake, only to see Ethan play the card she’d been saving for herself.
She watched him, curiosity flickering in her eyes, wondering what his strategy was.
But after a couple of rounds, Olivia had to admit: Ethan was right to play that card. Keeping it would’ve just weighed her down.
Resigned, she took another bite of cake and let out a sigh. Now she knew exactly why she kept losing—she was just terrible at this game.
Ethan gave her a sidelong glance. "Let me try a bite."
Olivia instantly scooped up a forkful of cake and fed it to him.
Elaine glanced over and shook her head. "You two really know how to live."
Carlson looked at her with a grin. "What’s there to be jealous of? Say ‘Ethan’ and I’ll feed you too."
