From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 277

Olivia Bennett felt a warm rush of gratitude. “Come by if you can, but don’t worry if not. You’ll always be the godmother, whether you’re here or not.”

“Damn right,” Nannie Bruce snorted, raising an eyebrow. “If you ever try to ditch me, I’ll just steal your kid. You watch—I’ll snatch them right up.”

Olivia laughed, totally unfazed, her bright eyes sparkling with amusement. “Honestly? Go ahead. If you want to take them off my hands, you’d be doing me a favor.”

Raising a kid was no walk in the park.

Nannie suddenly realized what she was saying and backpedaled. “On second thought, never mind. You keep the baby—I’m good.”

Taking care of a child full-time was way too much drama for her.

She much preferred being the fun aunt: all play, no responsibility.

Sure, goofing around with a kid was cute once in a while, but if she had to do it every day? She’d lose her mind.

They were still joking around when the waiter arrived with their food—hearty bowls of chicken noodle soup, a plate of ribs, and a steaming basket of warm bread rolls.

Nannie carefully ladled soup into Olivia’s bowl. “You feeling okay lately?”

“It’s a little rougher than before,” Olivia admitted as she sipped her soup.

The baby was growing, after all; pretending not to feel it would be a lie.

Nannie sighed. “Pregnancy sounds brutal.”

Olivia smiled wryly. “It’s not so bad. I can handle it.”

Compared to how excited she was for the baby, the discomfort was small potatoes.

Nannie rested her chin on her hand and studied Olivia. “So, how’s Ethan Carter treating you?”

Olivia’s answer was instant, her cheeks going a little pink. “He’s wonderful,” she said softly, her eyes shining with affection.

Nannie watched her and couldn’t help grinning. The way Olivia looked, it was obvious she and Ethan were genuinely happy—and that Ethan was head over heels for her.

She teased, “You oughta see your face right now.”

Olivia looked confused, running her hand over her cheeks. “What? Do I have something on me?”

Nannie nodded solemnly, big eyes wide. “Oh, definitely.”
